© The Author(s) 2021.The present study aimed to investigate the extent to which audio description contributes to the visually impaired individuals’ comprehension of a film by examining the visually impaired and sighted participants’ comprehension of two versions of the same film, one with and the other without supplementary audio description. The results of the study showed that the visually impaired participants were able to comprehend and narrate the events to the same extent as the sighted participants did when the film was supplemented with audio description. The qualitative analysis validated this finding and demonstrated that the visually impaired participants were able to comprehend the film to a great extent with the assistance of audio description. These findings emphasized the role of audio description assistance and its effects as an important resource in converting visual information to vocal information, which greatly aids the visually impaired individuals’ film comprehension. Also, the use of “Causal Network Model” showed that understanding the plot better could enable the audio description creators to provide better assistance for the visually impaired if they applied this model.

The mediator role of perceived social support in the relationship between difficulties in emotion regulation and suicide tendency
Demir, Berkan; Sümer, Zeynep (2022-01-01)
© 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature. While literature maintained a strong association between emotion regulation skills and suicidal behavior, relatively less is known as to what extent this relationship goes through different dimensions of perceived social support. The purpose of the present study is to examine the possible mediator role of divergent aspects of perceived social support (family, friends, and significant other) in the...
Comparative biological network analysis for differentially expressed proteins as a function of bacilysin biosynthesis in Bacillus subtilis
Kutnu, Meltem; İşlerel, Elif Tekin; Tunçbağ, Nurcan; Özcengiz, Gülay (2022-08-03)
© The Author(s) 2022. Published by Oxford University Press. All rights reserved. For permissions, please e-mail: journals.permission@oup.com.The Gram-positive bacterium Bacillus subtilis produces a diverse range of secondary metabolites with different structures and activities. Among them, bacilysin is an enzymatically synthesized dipeptide that consists of L-alanine and L-anticapsin. Previous research by our group has suggested bacilysin's role as a pleiotropic molecule in its producer, B. subtilis PY79. H...
Role of formulation additives on the properties of thermoplastic polyether ester elastomer-based and carbon fabric-reinforced multilayer composites
Yasar, Miray; Celebi, Hande; Bayram, Göknur (2022-01-01)
© The Author(s) 2022.In this study, multilayer carbon fabric-reinforced composites (CFRC) were manufactured by compression molding technique with the combination of carbon fabric and thermoplastic polyether ester elastomer (TPEE) composites. The TPEE-based polymer layers were prepared as binary, ternary, and quaternary composites using carbon black (CB) or N-(β-aminoethyl)-γ-aminopropyl-trimethoxysilane (AEAP) modified carbon black (mCB), ethylene-glycidyl methacrylate copolymer (EGMA) and/or paraffin oil. ...
Coating of silver nanoparticles on polyurethane film surface by green chemistry approach and investigation of antibacterial activity against S. epidermidis
Kara, Filiz; AKSOY, EDA AYŞE; Aksoy, Serpil; Hasırcı, Nesrin (2022-05-01)
© The Author(s) 2022.Silver nanoparticles with potential antibacterial properties are included in biomaterials for the production of medical devices, which are used for diagnoses or treatment purposes. The aim of the current study was coating the polyurethane (PU) films with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) due to their antibacterial efficacy. PU films were first modified by chitosan (CH), treated with AgNO3 to let CH chelate with silver ions, and then treated with vitamin-C (vit C) or glucose (Glu) to reduce t...
A one-pass predictor-corrector algorithm for the inverse Langevin function
BAŞDEMİR, SELÇUK; Dal, Hüsnü (2022-01-01)
© The Author(s) 2022.Inverse Langevin function has an extensive use in statistical mechanics, polymer chemistry, and physics. Main struggle is that the inverse Langevin function cannot be expressed in an exact analytical form. To this end, many approaches to estimate the inverse Langevin function have been proposed. A trade-off can be observed between level of accuracy and mathematical complexity in the existing approximants in the literature. In the present contribution, a simple, yet efficient one-pass pr...
