The signal quality of antennas and waveguides in the transmission of electromagnetic waves are very much dependent on the surface finish of these devices. Effects of pulse parameters on the surface properties of silver coatings of the copper substrates have been analysed in terms of surface roughness and S-parameter (scattering parameter). The duty cycle, frequency and average current density were used as three pulse parameters. Three levels were selected for each parameter in the experimental design. The surface finish was found to be directly proportional to duty cycle and average current density but inversely proportional to frequency. The S11 scattering parameter observations were made relative to a gold-plated reference coupon. It was analysed that the smoother surface had more reflection power in terms of S11 parameter thus decreasing the loss of radiation.

Aspects of HF radio propagation
Warrington, E. Michael; Bourdillon, Alain; Benito, Eulalia; Bianchi, Cesidio; Monilie, Jean-Philippe; Muriuki, Martha; Pietrella, Marco; Rannou, Veronique; Rothkaehl, Hanna; Saillant, Stephane; Sari, Ozgur; Stocker, Alan J.; Tulunay, Ersin; Tulunay, Yurdanur; Zaalov, Nikolay Y. (2009-06-01)
The propagation characteristics of radio signals are important parameters to consider when designing and operating radio systems. From the point of view Working Group 2 of the COST 296 Action, interest lies with effects associated with propagation via the ionosphere of signals within the HF band. Several aspects are covered in this paper:
Temporal and spatial forecasting of the foF2 values up to twenty four hours in advance
Tulunay, E; Ozkaptan, C; Tulunay, Yurdanur (2000-01-01)
Radio waves of a wide range of frequencies from very low frequency (VLF) to high frequency (HF), (broadly 3 to 30 MHz) can be propagated to great distances via the ionosphere.
Effects of surface potential fluctuations on DLTS of MOS structure
Ozder, S; Atilgan, I; Katircioglu, B (1996-02-01)
Although the conventional large signal deep-level transient spectroscopy (DLTS) technique is immune to surface potential fluctuations resulting from interface charge inhomogeneities in a MOS structure, in energy resolved, small signal DLTS, the eventual surface potential fluctuation should be considered. In this paper, the effect of the potential fluctuation on the temperature-scan DLTS signal for a given gate bias has been carried out. In fact, this effect shifts the DLTS peak position to lower temperature...
Modeling of time domain represented signals with multitone signals
Cansız, Gökhan; Demir, Şimşek; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2014)
Signals in certain systems, such as the transmitted signal in a cellular communication system, are strongly time dependent, non-deterministic and stochastically not well defined. Predicting the performance of the transmitter with such a signal at its input is important for efficient operation. Therefore, it is crucial to model a given time dependent waveform by multi-tone signals, which enables analytical derivations. In this thesis, multi-tone representation is employed to model the varying envelope arbitr...
Effects of array guided surface waves on radiation characteristics of a finite planar printed dipole array
Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem; Pathak, PH (2004-06-26)
The presence of surface waves different from the conventional grounded dielectric substrate surface wave modes, which can be excited on a finite periodic radiating array of printed dipoles, at frequencies for which the spacing between dipoles is typically less than half a wavelength is studied. The effects of such array guided surface waves on the array radiation characteristics are investigated. Techniques to suppress these surface waves are also discussed.
