Eski zamanlardan bu yana gelen sembol ve anlatılarla üzüm, nihai ürünlerinden olan şarabı saran kutsallık ve kâfirlik ikilemi sebebiyle diğer tarımsal ürünlerden ayrılır. Üzüm ve şarap üretimi toplumların mirasına dair çeşitli anlamlara sahiptir ve bu kalıt bir ülkenin doğduğu toprakların özelliklerini ve zenginliğini taşır. Çalışmada, üzüm ve şarabın Anadolu’daki antik kökenlerinden modern Türkiye’ye kadar uzanan tarihsel bir incelemeden sonra, Ankara ve bölgesinin bağları, üzüm ve şarap üretim mirası konu edilmektedir. Bağ kelimesi, sadece üzüm bağını değil, aynı zamanda bir kent ve üzüm mirası arasındaki giderek kopan bağları metaforik olarak anlatmaktadır.Yetmiş yıl öncesine kadar bağlarla çevrili olan ancak bugün, bağ mekânlarını ve kültürünü büyük ölçüde yitirmiş olan Ankara kenti, bağları ve bağ evleri, şarap üretim ve eğitim birimleri (Atatürk Orman Çiftliği, Yüksek Ziraat Enstitüsü, şaraphaneler), ve ilçeleri (Kalecik, Akyurt) üzerinden incelenmektedir. Temel amacı Ankara ve bölgesinin kültürel ve mekânsal tarihini, daha önce bahsedilen bağlamda çalışılmamış bir çerçeve ve yöntemle tartışmak olan çalışma, Ankara’da üzümün mirasının zenginliği ve bozuma uğraması süreçleri içerisinde aktörler, ağlar ve politikaları çözümlemektedir. Bu başlıklar altında ele alınan üzüm ve şarap üretim kapasiteleri, doğal ve kırsal potansiyellerin değerlerinin de gösterdiği gibi, bir zamanlar Engürü (Farsça’da üzüm) olarak anılan kentin artık bu isimle yaşamadığını bir kere daha gözler önüne sermektedir.
