In this study, it is aimed to determine the effect of environmental STEM application on students' environmental awareness, knowledge and scientific skills. Within the scope of the sixth grade science course, an E-STEM course was designed and implemented on the relationship between thermal insulation and the sustainable use of natural resources in line with engineering practices. 56 students attended the lesson, and the effectiveness of the lesson was measured using pre-post tests, experiment worksheet and project report in line with quantitative methods without a control group. It is seen in this study that the lectures with E-STEM approach contributed to students’ knowledge, awareness and scientific skill levels related to heat insulation subject and sustainability.

The present study aimed to determine level of pre-service chemistry teachers' environmental literacy and their perceptions on environmental education. This study was realized during the fall semester of 2006-2007 academic year with the participation of 60 students enrolled in five-year chemistry teacher education program. The data collected by administration of Environmental Literacy Test and Environmental Education Perception Survey were analyzed by descriptive statistics and content analysis. The pre-serv...
AN INVESTIGATION ON THE ELEMENTARY TEACHERS' KNOWLEDGE ABOUT AIR POLLUTION ISSUES
Yılmaz Tüzün, Özgül; Teksöz, Gaye (2008-01-01)
The aim of this study was to determine the elementary teachers' knowledge about air pollution. Ozone depletion, global warming, acid rain, and renewable energy were also addressed in this study to get holistic picture about air pollution. A total-of 183 teachers from the 91 schools in Ankara participated to the study. The data obtained were analyzed by means of both quantitative statistical and document analyses techniques. Results revealed that majority of the teachers have an idea about the basic air poll...

Examination of pre-service chemistry teachers’ competency in the field of environmental education and sustainable development
Soysal, Ceren; Geban, Ömer; Teksöz, Gaye; Department of Secondary Science and Mathematics Education (2017)
The purpose of this study was to explore pre-service chemistry teachers’ competency related to Environmental Education and Sustainable Development. In doing so, the frame was set to focus on three fields of competency: (i) content knowledge, (ii) pedagogical content knowledge, (iii) chemistry literacy. The data gathered from 24 pre-service chemistry teachers at the end of the spring semester of 2016-2017. Essay type questions was used as the source of data. The instrument was created by using the current co...
Development of effective STEM education materials.
Tomaç, Cemre; Eryılmaz, Ali; Department of Mathematics and Science Education (2019)
The aim of this study is to develop STEM Project-Based Learning (STEM PBL) activities for 9th grade level by using ASSURE Model. During the literature research, it was found that there was no systematic material development process in the development of existing STEM PBL activities. To fill this gap in the literature, firstly, the characteristics of STEM activities were determined and ASSURE Model was revised to form these characteristics. Subsequently, with this model, 3 STEM PBL activities were developed....
