Active surface passivation for SWIR InGaAs photodetectors
Necati, Işık; Kocaman, Serdar; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2022-1)
This thesis work offers a new method for improving one of the performance parameters in infrared photodetector technology. This method involves suppressing the surface dark current by utilizing a constant E-field on the surface of the photodetector. By interrupting the channel formation on the surface, a significant improvement in the generation-recombination (GR) dark current component is observed. Relatively minor improvements on differential resistance and the shunt component of the dark current are note...
Aerodynamic parameter estimation of a missile in closed loop control and validation with flight data
Aydın, Güneş; Kutay, Ali Türker; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2012)
Aerodynamic parameter estimation from closed loop data has been developed as another research area since control and stability augmentation systems have been mandatory for aircrafts. This thesis focuses on aerodynamic parameter estimation of an air to ground missile from closed loop data using separate surface excitations. A design procedure is proposed for designing separate surface excitations. The effect of excitations signals to the system is also analyzed by examining autopilot disturbance rejection pe...
Development of an octree based grid coarsening and multigrid flow solution
Mahmutyazıcıoğlu, Emel; Aksel, Mehmet Haluk; Tuncer, İsmail Hakkı; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2010)
The multigrid technique is one of the most effective techniques to achieve the reduction of the CPU cost for flow solvers. The multigrid strategy uses the multilevel grids which are the coarsening subsets of fine grid. An explicit solver rapidly reduces the high frequency errors on the computational grids. Since high frequency errors on coarse grids correspond to low frequency errors on fine grids, cycling through the coarse grid levels rapidly reduces the errors ranging from high-to-low frequency. The aim ...
Autopilot and guidance for anti-tank imaging infrared guided missiles
Özcan, Ali Erdem; Leblecioğlu, Kemal; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2008)
An anti-tank guided missile is a weapon system primarily designed to hit and destroy armored tanks and other armored vehicles. Developed first-generation command-guided and second-generation semi-automatic command guided missiles had many disadvantages and lower hit rates. For that reason, third generation imaging infrared fire-and-forget missile concept is very popular nowadays. In this thesis, mainly, a mathematical model for a fire-and-forget anti-tank missile is developed and a flight control autopilot ...
