Spatial variation of VOCs and inorganic pollutants in a university building
YURDAKUL, Sema; CİVAN, MİHRİBAN; ÖZDEN ÜZMEZ, ÖZLEM; Gaga, Eftade; DÖĞEROĞLU, TUNCAY; Tuncel, Süleyman Gürdal (2017-01-01)
Indoor concentrations of 34 volatile organic compounds (VOCs), sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and ozone (O-3) were measured at 32 sampling points in classes, offices and hallways of the Environmental Engineering Department (ENVE) in the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara. Outdoor samples were also collected around the department during the sampling campaigns. Two passive sampling campaigns, one in summer and the other one in winter, were conducted. Indoor concentrations of most ...
Observation of a diffractive contribution to dijet production in proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV
Chatrchyan, S.; et. al. (2013-01-01)
The cross section for dijet production in proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV is presented as a function of (xi) over tilde, a variable that approximates the fractional momentum loss of the scattered proton in single-diffractive events. The analysis is based on an integrated luminosity of 2.7 nb(-1) collected with the CMS detector at the LHC at low instantaneous luminosities, and uses events with jet transverse momentum of at least 20 GeV. The dijet cross section results are compared to the predictio...
Social Policy and the Dynamics of Early Childhood Poverty in Turkey
Dayıoğlu Tayfur, Meltem (Informa UK Limited, 2016-11-01)
This paper analyses the dynamics of child poverty in Turkey using a nationally representative four-year panel. The results show that 51.4% of 0-6-year-olds are touched by poverty over a four-year period, which is substantially higher than the cross-sectional head count ratio of 32.2%. Totally 30% of the poor children or 15.4% of the child population experience poverty for the entire observation window. Furthermore, nearly half experience severe material deprivation. Although we find substantial movements in...
Anti-americanism in Turkey : a comparison of Bush and Obama periods
Asma, Gizem; Ünlü Bilgiç, Tuba; Department of International Relations (2013)
This thesis aims to explore the course of anti-Americanism in Turkey which dramatically increased during the presidency of George W. Bush. It will analyze the continuity or change in anti-Americanism from Bush‘s period to his successor Barack Obama‘s term on the basis of Turkish-American relations and American foreign policy. It will first elaborate on the concept of anti-Americanism, then cover the historical background of bilateral relations, and finally analyze the periods of President George W. Bush and...
The development and use of combined cultures for the treatment of low strength wastewaters
Ergüder, Tuba Hande; Demirer, Göksel Niyazi; Department of Environmental Engineering (2005)
This study was carried out to develop combined cultures which were composed of anaerobic and aerobic cultures, and could survive and operate under alternating aerobic and/or microaerobic / anaerobic conditions in semi-continuous and Upflow Sludge Blanket (USB) reactors. Granular combined cultures with median diameter of 1.28-1.86 mm and 0.8 mm were developed from suspended anaerobic and aerobic cultures in semi-continuous and USB reactors, respectively. Significant specific methanogenic activity (SMA, 14-42...
