Protection of transmission lines against switching over voltages
Elmas, Erinç Evren; Ertaş, Arif; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2004)
Any switching action or lightning stroke on a transmission system causes excessive of voltage, which are propagated through the equipment. The withstand capability of the electrical equipment to these overvoltages is dependent on the rate of rise, peak value and the duration of these overvoltages and are especially critical to information technology (IT) equipment. Whenever there is a probability of these overvoltages appearing across the electrical equipment, they should be limited to a safe value by the a...

Prevention of sidewall redeposition of etched byproducts in the dry Au etch process
Aydemir, A.; Akın, Tayfun (IOP Publishing, 2012-07-01)
In this paper we present a new technique of etching thin Au film in a dual frequency inductively coupled plasma (ICP) system on Si substrate to prevent the redeposition of etched Au particles over the sidewall of the masking material known as veils. First, the effect of the lithography step was investigated. Then the effects of etch chemistry and the process parameters on the redeposition of etched Au particles on the sidewall of the masking material were investigated. The redeposition effect was examined b...
PROTECTION OF PURE IRON AGAINST HIGH-TEMPERATURE OXIDATION USING METABORATE AND METASILICATE COATINGS
HUSAIN, Z (NACE International, 1993-04-01)
Sodium metaborate and metasilicate coatings protect pure iron in the temperature range 800 to 1,000-degrees-C. Metaborate and metasilicate inhibit oxidation. Protective vonsenite (4FeO x Fe2O3 x B2O3) forms with metaborate, and protective fayalite (2FeO x SiO2) forms with metasilicate. It is proposed that noncoherent blocking layers of these compounds effectively decrease the interface area for iron ion diffusion.
