Effect of solidification rate on microstructure and primary carbides of AISI DC 53 cold work tool steel
Cardakh, Ismail Seckin; Kalkanlı, Ali (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2019-05-01)
The solidification behavior of AISI DC 53 cold work tool steel was investigated by means of a cooling curve and its first derivative. Copper and sand wedge-shaped molds were used to obtain various solidification rates. To reveal the cooling rate degree during solidification, the secondary dendrite arm spacing of the steel alloy was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The solidification rates of each section for both wedge steel samples were calculated by means of the secondary dendrite arm spaci...

Effect of microstructural modification on damage tolerance of 34CrMo4 shaft steel
Ozcan, Burak; Gurer, Goksu; Gür, Cemil Hakan (Wiley, 2020-06-01)
Overall damage tolerances of the heat-treated 34CrMo4 steels having ferritic-pearlitic, bainitic, and tempered-martensitic microstructures were evaluated based on their threshold stress intensity factor prior to small crack propagation, fatigue strength, and fracture toughness under static loading. Kitagawa-Takahashi diagrams were constructed to determine the limiting size of small crack propagation. The micromechanical effects of carbide morphology and phase distribution on quasi-static and dynamic mechani...

EFFECT OF POROSITY ON INTERFACIAL FAILURE IN STEEL-FIBER-REINFORCED POLYMER-IMPREGNATED CONCRETE
Gündüz, Güngör (Elsevier BV, 1988-01-01)
The interfacial bond between a steel fibre and concrete generally increases with the polymer content. Naphthalene used to generate new pores in order t increase the polymer loading and thus to increase the interfacial bond strength has a positive effect up to 3% by weight. Higher amounts weaken the cementitious phase and also decrease the amount of polymer incorporated. Drying of concrete before impregnation at 150°C rather than at 105°C increases the polymer loading and thus the interfacial bond strength. ...
