This study approaches this problem by setting individualized difficulty levels for tasks to examine the dual task interference. Research question: Do the features of postural sway depend on increased individualized difficulty levels of concurrent cognitive and postural activities? Methods: 20 young healthy participants (10 male, 10 female) took part in the study. Before the experiments, cognitive task difficulty (No-, Medium-, High) has been set individually. Subjects performed postural tasks (quiet stance, voluntary sway) concurrently with or without a cognitive task which based on simple arithmetic calculations. Postural sway features were examined. Results: Postural sway features were affected by individualized difficulty level of concurrent cognitive and postural activities. In voluntary sway, as a more challenging postural task, higher reductions were observed for such sway features as COP velocity and range in AP direction. Significance: This study signaled task-specific changes in postural sway features. When the difficulty levels were set individually, the effect of motor and cognitive dual task was more apparent when the balance requirement of the primary motor task increased.

Amaç:Bu çalışmanın amacı farklı zorlukta postural motor görev sırasında eş zamanlı olarak gerçekleştirilen bilişsel görevin postür kontrolü üzerine etkisinin incelenmesidir. Yöntem:19 gönüllü katılımcı (yaş:23±6 yıl, boy:171.7± cm, v.ağırlığı:71.1± kg) 1 dk boyunca üç farklı zorluk düzeyinde bilişsel görev altında, kuvvet platformu üzerinde ayakta sakin duruş (QS) ve istemli postural salınım (VS) hareketi yapmaları istenmiştir. Bilişsel görev işitsel olarak kendilerine ardışık olarak sunulan basit aritmetik...
The Combined Effect of Light Touch and Cognitive Task Difficulty on Postural Control
çelik, tuğba; Kirazcı, Sadettin; Department of Physical Education and Sports (2021-10-12)
Studies investigating combined effects of light touch and cognitive task are limited and available results are inconsistent regarding effects of cognitive task on postural control. Therefore, this study investigated the combined effects of light touch and cognitive task difficulty on postural control. Participants performed cognitive task and light touch individually and simultaneously. Results indicated that both light touch and cognitive task improved postural sway individually. The cognitive task difficu...

Human posture control is accompanied usually in daily life with other tasks, such as cognitive tasks. This thesis is on the effects of cognitive task difficulty on postural control, the postural control mechanisms, attention and its relation to posture control and finally the dual task environments for posture control. The experiment’s set an individualized difficulty level for each participant. Results indicate that when motor and challenging cognitive tasks are completed under dual task conditions, dual t...
The effects of cognitive load in learning from goal based scenario designed multimedia learning environment for learners having different working memory capacities

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of principles aiming to reduce extraneous cognitive load in learning from goal based scenario designed multimedia learning environment for learners having different working memory capacities. In addition, the effects of goal based scenario and the principles of cognitive load theory on students’ perception, motivation and satisfaction has been explored. Two versions of the multimedia were developed for this study. In the first version (+CLT), the princ...
Effects of external and sel-controlled feedback schedule on retention of anticipation timing and ball throwing task
Arsal, Güler; Kirazcı, Sadettin; Department of Physical Education and Sports (2004)
The purpose of this study was to examine whether the feedback schedule controlled by the learner created an optimal environment for retention of motor skills. Two experiments were conducted and participants were randomly assigned to a Control (100% KR), 20% RF KR, Self-controlled and Yoked conditions. In experiment one an anticipation timing task and in experiment two a ball throwing task was used. The second experiment also included a transfer test in order to measure the persistence of the acquired capabi...
