The design-based teaching activity developed and implemented within this study is intended to be presented as an example of an activity suitable for STEM education focused on mathematics lessons. The activity was developed in line with the design process indicators within the K-12 engineering education framework. The steps of this learning model are (1) problem and background, (2) plan and implementation, and (3) testing and evaluation. The activity particularly targets elementary school students produce an engineering design product using simple and low-cost materials. The four criteria presented to the students in this process were (1) apartments receiving light, (2) being earthquake resistant, (3) being economical and (4) aesthetics and marketing. Throughout the design process, the criterion that students had the most difficulty was observed as the sun exposure of the flats. Also, most of the students focused more on the aesthetic criterion than other criteria, and they emphasized this criterion most in the marketing process of their products.

For the specified purpose, firstly, Students’ Perception of 21st Century Learning Practices instrument was validated for Turkish middle school students. Then, students’ perceptions were examined in terms of learning processes for 21th century learning (i.e. self-directed learning, collabor...

All rights reserved.Online crowdsourcing sites/platforms have become popular in recent years, and the first aim of this study is to uncover what crowdsourcing resources language learners in Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republic of North Macedonia and Poland know about and use. The other two goals of the study are to uncover what crowdsourcing games or websites the students in the studied countries utilise as in- or/and outside-class activities, how enjoyable the...
Frame finite element model for nonlinear and vibration analysis of steel structures with Beam-Column and Column-Base Semi-Rigid Connections Kiriş-Kolon ve Kolon-Taban Yari-Rijit baǧlantili çelik yapilarin doǧrusal olmayan ve titreşim analizleri için çerçeve sonlu elemani modeli

All rights reserved. In this paper, a shear deformable force-based frame finite element with semi-rigid connections is derived for nonlinear analysis of steel structures. Distributed plasticity approach is defined along element length and section depth, and linear or non-linear semi-rigid connection behavior can be specified anywhere along elements without the necessity to define additional nodes and to increase the degrees of freedom of the structural system. VIBRANT SCHOOLS IN TURKEY: THE PERSPECTIVE OF SCHOOL PRINCIPALS TOWARDS VIBRANT SCHOOL CLIMATE
Gürdal, Ayşe Nur; Kondakçı, Yaşar; Department of Educational Administration and Planning (2021-7)
The purpose of the study was to highlight the fundamental pillars of a student-friendly school atmosphere and to suggest premises for vibrant school climate proposed by Clement, Tschannen-Moran, Hockaday, Feldstein (2017) in the Turkish schools. The design of the study was generic qualitative study. Based on the purpose of this study, semi-structured interviews were conducted as the main data collection instrument. The data were collected 20 primary public-school principals in Ankara, Turkey. The content an...
