This process has augmented the lens for infrastructural topics, and placed infrastructure's latent potentiality at the forefront. Car-dependent infrastructure, however, persists in and conditions urbanism in many others. For such cities, the encounter of roads with the city and human-scale spaces raises critical ground in need of new strategies, particularly to mediate the relation between roads and their vicinities. This article, hereby, dwells on the interfacial relations and spaces betwixt urban roads and relational geographies, conceptualizing friction as a spatial notion. In this, the study departs from the conflicting presence of urban roads in Ankara. Dwelling on two Boulevards—Atatürk and Malazgirt—the article reflects on the obscured spatial, cultural, and social conditions caused by frictionless mobility strategies over time. It uncovers and accentuates the urgency of friction space strategies to claim infrastructural terrains and re(dis)cover severed or missing continuities (in Ankara).

Tensionless strings and Killing(-Yano) tensors
Lindström, Ulf; Sarıoğlu, Bahtiyar Özgür (2022-06-10)
© 2022 The Author(s)We construct invariants for bosonic and spinning tensionless (null) strings in backgrounds that carry Killing tensors or Killing-Yano tensors of mixed type. This is facilitated by the close relation of these strings to point particles. We apply the construction to the Minkowski and to the Kerr-Newman backgrounds.
Linear and nonlinear optical characteristics of PbMoO4 single crystal for optoelectronic applications
Delice, S.; Isik, M.; Hasanlı, Nızamı (2022-10-01)
© 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature. In the present paper, we studied linear and nonlinear optical properties of lead molybdate (PbMoO4) single crystals grown by Czochralski method. Raman measurement was performed in the range of 50–1000 cm−1 and 11 active vibration modes were defined in the spectrum. The nature of the observed modes was discussed in detail. Optical absorption of the material was investigated utilizing room temperatu...
Real-time measurement of laser beam characteristics for a waterjet-guided laser machine
Subasi, Levent; Gökler, Mustafa İlhan; Yaman, Ulaş (2022-01-01)
© 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature.Waterjet-guided laser machining is a novel process used for precision cutting and drilling of various materials and geometries. There are many noise factors in the process affecting the laser beam characteristics, namely the effective cutting length and laser power in the waterjet. Although these variables are mainly set by the laser and waterjet parameters, uncontrollable factors result in variations. Pre...
Cultural values, national personality characteristics, and intelligence as correlates of corruption: A nation level analysis
Gaygısız Lajunen, Esma; Lajunen, Timo (2022-05-01)
© 2022 The Author(s)Research on national corruption has primarily focused on economics and politics, whereas cultural factors and especially national personality characteristics have attracted less attention. In the present study, the influence of Hofstede's cultural dimensions, Schwartz's values, Eysenckian personality factors (EPQ), and national intelligent quotient (IQ) on Corruption Perception Index (CPI) scores were studied by using aggregated data from 64 countries and ecological design, i.e., correla...

© 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.Sandy soil-clay mixtures are commonly used as a liner/barrier material in various engineering applications, such as construction of hydraulic and waste containment. In this study, the hydromechanical characteristics of tuff-bentonite and tuff-bentonite/cement mixtures are investigated to propose a local barrier material. A series of free swelling, one-dimensional consolidation and falling head permeability tests for hydrauli...
