The role of metacognition in students’ mental models of the quantization
Didiş Körhasan, Nilüfer; Eryılmaz, Ali; Erkoç, Şakir (2018-09-01)
As part of a multiphase study (Didiş et al., 2014; Didiş et al., 2016), this research focused on the effective issues on cognition, and it examined the role of metacognition in the construction of mental models. With the identification of students’ mental models of quantization of physical observables in the previous parts of the project, we considered metacognition theory to identify how knowledge about cognition influenced the construction of their mental models. Semi-structured interviews were conducted ...
The effect of modelling instruction on high school students’ understanding of projectile motion
Şahin, Mine Gökçe; Geban, Ömer; Department of Secondary Science and Mathematics Education (2008)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of modeling instruction over traditionally designed physics instruction on students’ understanding of projectile motion concepts and their attitudes towards physics. In addition, the effects of gender difference on their understanding of projectile motion concepts and attitudes towards physics were explored. Furthermore, students’ views on the nature of science were searched. The subjects of this study included 88 tenth grade students of four classes i...

Kentsel Dokuların Dolaşım Sistemlerinin İşleyişindeki Rolü
Zorlu, Fikret (Middle East Technical University, Faculty of Architecture, 2008)
THE ROLE OF RANDOM NOISE ON EFFORTS IN GROUP CONTESTS
İNTİŞAH, Merve; Büyükboyacı Hanay, Mürüvvet İlknur; Department of Economics (2022-2)
We theoretically and experimentally study the effect of random noise on effort level in individual and three different types of group contests: perfect-substitutes, best-shot, and weakest-link. Subjects compete for either a high prize value or a low prize value in individual contests. The theoretical model shows that individual effort increases with prize value but decreases with noise variance. Our experiment finds that in individual contests, subjects who compete for a low prize decrease their efforts as ...
