Consolidation of neoliberalism through political islam and its limits: The case of Turkey
Uzgoren, Elif (Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi (Ankara, Turkey), 2018-12)
The Justice and Development Party (JDP) carries the neoliberal programme with a moderate form of Islam in Turkey since 2002 elections. This article aims to present a political economy reading of Turkey’s state-society formation historically through embarking on Gramscian historical materialism. It then questions how institutionalist and critical political economy literature debate the JDP rule. I shall argue that while the institutionalist political economy literature fails to explicate the JDP rule, c...
Reproduction of nationalism (Ulusalcılık) in the process of democratic opening in Turkey : the case of Türksolu magazine
Kütküt, Özgür Mehmet; Topal, Çağatay; Department of Sociology (2013)
The aim of this thesis is to analyse how the Türksolu magazine reproduced ulusalcılık during the democratic opening process in 2009-2011, which was oriented toward solving the Kurdish Issue being one of the most burning problems of the Turkish social and political life. For this reason the nationalism theories have been examined, the relationship between socialism and nationalism, tactical positions and the ideas of Sultan Galiev, who was one of the fundamental sources of Türksolu’s ulusalcılık, as well as ...
EROSION OF BASINS OF ATTRACTION - PERFORMANCE LOSSES IN SENSORIMOTOR LEARNING OF A ROBOT MANIPULATOR
UNERI, M; Erkmen, Aydan Müşerref (1992-08-13)
The sensorimotor learning phase is considered in the context of a collision-free dynamic path planning architecture for a robot manipulator in an uncertain task environment. The robot dynamics are effected by a vector field generated by partially known attractors and repellers, with uncertainty represented by entropy measures. The joint space is transformed into a cell space, and sensor uncertainty is taken proportional to cell size. The authors use a cell-to-cell mapping concept to develop a simple cell ma...
Loss Of Intrinsic Qualities Of Urban Form And Local Social Processes In The Face Of Globalisation: Case Of Karachi’s Old Town
Ahmed, Suneela (Middle East Technical University, Faculty of Architecture, 2020)
In their aspiration to imitate cities of the west, many cities in the context of the developing world blindly copy the built form being constructed in other contexts, irrespective of the fact that this imitation may lead to creation of built form which may not be climatically, socially and economically relevant. As a certain type of building is supposed to represent modernism and the future, thus this exercise of copy pasting continues. This practice is evident in all major cities of Pakistan. At ground rea...
Intrusions Upon Same-Sex or Different-Sex Dyads in a Turkish University Dining Hall
Hortaçsu, Nuran; Düzen, Ekrem; Arat, Selçuk; Atahan, Didem; Uzer, Berna (Wiley, 1990-1)
Latencies for intrusion upon same‐ and different‐sex dyads in a university dining hall were Investigated. Latencies were longer for different‐sex dyads than for either of the male‐male and female‐female dyads. No significant differences were revealed between the two types of same‐sex dyads. The results were explained by the assumption of greater affective interdependence for mixed‐sex than same‐sex dyads.
