Thermal Analysis and Rheological Study of Ocma Type Bentonite Used in Drilling Fluids

2013-01-01
In this research, Ocma type of bentonite sample was studied by x-ray diffraction, Fourier transform spectrophotometer, viscometer, differential scanning calorimeter, and thermogravimetry. It was observed that the major clay mineral was smectite and montmorillonite. Different band intervals were studied by Fourier transform spectrophotometer. The weight loss regions related to the dehydration and de-hydroxylation process were determined by differential scanning calorimeter and thermogravimetry at different heating rates. Kinetic parameters of the bentonite samples were determined by Arrhenius and Coats & Redfern models at different heating rates and it was found that the activation energies of the bentonite samples were in the range of 65.178.6 kJ/mol for the Arrhenius model and it was in the range of 46.488.9 kJ/mol for the Coats & Redfern model, respectively.

Thermal Characterization of Sepiolite Samples
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (2013-01-15)
In this research, two sepiolite samples of different origins were studied by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimeter, and thermogravimetry. It was observed that both sepiolite samples are nearly pure and well crystallized sepiolite. Thermal studies (thermogravimetry) showed that four distinct weight loss regions are observed in both sepiolite samples studied. It was noticed that these structural changes play an important role to the properties and uses o...
Thermal characterization of different origin class-G cements
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (2014-02-01)
In this study, thermal characteristics and kinetics of three different origin class-G cements (Mix, Bolu, and Nuh) were studied using thermogravimetry (TG/DTG) and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). In DSC curves at different heating rates a number of peaks were observed consistently in different temperature intervals. TG/DTG is used to identify the detected phases and the corresponding mass loss. In the dehydration kinetic study of the different origin class-G cement samples, three different methods ...
The Chemistry, Kinetics, and Potential Utilization of Different Origins of Bentonite Samples
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (2014-01-17)
In this research, different origins of bentonite samples (non-treated, treated, and test) were studied by x-ray diffraction, Fourier transform spectrophotometer, viscometer, and thermogravimetry. It was observed that the major clay minerals were smectite and montmorillonite. Different band intervals were studied by Fourier transform. The weight loss regions related to the dehydration and de-hydroxylation process were determined by thermogravimetry. Kinetic parameters of the bentonite samples were determined...
Thermal degradation of Polylactide/Poly(ethylene glycol) fibers and composite fibers involving organoclay
Ozdemir, Esra; Hacaloğlu, Jale (2018-01-01)
In this study, electrospun fibers of melt blended poly(lactic acid) and poly(ethylene glycol), (PLA)-PEG blends involving 10, 15 and 20 wt% PEG and their corresponding composites with organically modified montmorillonite, Cloisite 30B were prepared and characterized by x-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetry and direct pyrolysis mass spectrometry techniques. The narrower fiber diameters observed for the PLA-PEG fibers involving organoclay compared to the corresponding neat fib...
Thermal behavior and kinetics of crude oils at low heating rates by differential scanning calorimeter
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (2012-04-01)
The objective of this research was to investigate thermal behavior and kinetics of different origin crude oils in limestone matrix by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) at low heating rates. In DSC experiments, three distinct reaction regions were identified in all of the crude oil + limestone mixtures known as low temperature oxidation (LTO), fuel deposition (FD) and high temperature oxidation (HTO) respectively. Kinetic analysis of the crude oil samples was determined by different models known as AST...
