Effect of Oxygen Tension and Medium Components on Monomer Distribution of Alginate
Moral, Cigdem Kivilcimdan; Doğan, Özdemir; Sanin, Faika Dilek (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2015-06-01)
Alginate is a natural biopolymer composed of mannuronic and guluronic acid monomers. It is produced by algae and some species of Azotobacter and Pseudomonas. This study aims to investigate the effect of dissolved oxygen tension (DOT) and growth medium substrate and calcium concentrations on the monomeric composition of alginate produced by Azotobacter vinelandii ATCCA (R) 9046 in a fermenter. Results showed that alginate production increased with increasing DOT from 1 to 5 %. The highest alginate production...

Effect of production parameters on porosity and hole properties in laser sintering rapid prototyping process
İlkgün, Özkan; Erdal Erdoğmuş, Merve; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2005)
Selective laser sintering (SLS) is a rapid prototyping method in which three-dimensional objects are constructed by sintering thin layers of a variety of powdered materials via laser beam. In SLS, as in most other Rapid Prototyping methods, the produced parts exhibit varying degrees of intrinsic porosity due to the discrete nature of layer-by-layer production. Selective scanning and discrete bonding of individual particles or clusters of particles impart local porosity, which is mostly an undesired trait as...
EFFECT OF BUILD DIRECTION ON CRACK GROWTH BEHAVIOR OF Ti6Al4V ALLOY MANUFACTURED BY ELECTRON BEAM MELTING
Çalık, Feyziye; Gürbüz, Rıza; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2022-12-01)
The effects of build orientation on the crack propagation behavior of Ti6Al4V fabricated by elecron beam melting which is one of metal additive manufacturing methods were examined in this study. Firstly, Ti6Al4V blocks were manufactured at different building angles (00,300,450and 900) regarding as base plane using EBM. Subsequently, test specimens were machined from these blocks in compliance with ASTM E8, ASTM E399 and ASTM E647 standards for tensile, fracture toughness and crack growth rate specimen...
Effect of TiH2 particle size on foaming of aluminium
Kubilay, Ceylan; Öztürk, Tayfur; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2005)
A study is carried out on the production of aluminum foams via powder processing. The study deals mainly with the effect of TiH2 particle size on the process of foaming. Mainly two TiH2 particle sizes were used; namely 27,5 ?m and 8,5 ?m. Foaming experiments were carried out at temperatures between 675oC ا 840oC. The viscosity of the system is adjusted by controlled addition of Al2O3. The study shows that choice of foaming agent size is influential in the foaming process. With the use of fine foaming agent,...
