Adaptation of a control system to varying missile configurations
Ekinci, Özgür; Yavrucuk, İlkay; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2009)
Varying missile configurations may create uncertainty for a missile control algorithm developed with linear control theory, for instance the control system performance requirements may not be satisfied anymore. Missile configuration may change during the missile design period due to variations in subsystem locations, subsystem weights and missile geometry. Likewise, burning propellant, deployment of aerodynamic surfaces and wings with varying sweep angle can be considered as in-flight missile configuration ...
Flight simulation and control of a helicopter
Erçin, Gülsüm Hilal; Tekinalp, Ozan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2008)
In this thesis the development of a nonlinear simulation model of a utility helicopter and the design of its automatic flight control system is addressed. In the first part of this thesis, the nonlinear dynamic model for a full size helicopter is developed using the MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. The main rotor (composed of inflow and flapping dynamics parts), tail rotor, fuselage, vertical stabilizer, horizontal stabilizer of the helicopter are modeled in order to obtain the total forces and moments needed f...
Active flow control studies over an elliptical profile
Erler, Engin; Tuncer, İsmail Hakkı; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2008)
Active flow control by a jet over a 12.5% thick elliptic profile is investigated numerically. Unsteady flowfields are calculated with a Navier Stokes solver. The numerical method is first validated without the jet and with the presence of steady-blowing and pulsating jets. Three jet types, namely steady, pulsating and synthetic jets, are next compared with each other and it is shown that the most drag reduction is achieved by a synthetic jet and the most lift enhancement is achieved by a steady jet. The inf...
Simulation and performance evaluation of a fast and high power pulsed laser diode driver for laser range finder
Altınok, Yahya Kemal; Erkmen, İsmet; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2012)
Laser Diodes (LDs) are semiconductor coherent lightening devices which are widely used in many fields such as defence, industry, medical and optical communications. They have advantageous characteristics such as having higher electrical-to-optical and optical-to-optical conversion efficiencies from pump source to useful output power when compared to flash lamps, which makes them the best devices to be used in range finding applications. Optical output power of lasers depends on current through LDs. Therefor...
Development of de-icing and anti-icing solutions for aircraft on ground and analysis of their flow instability characteristics
Körpe, Durmuş Sinan; Özgen, Serkan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2008)
In this thesis, development process of de-icing and anti-icing solutions and their flow instability characteristics are presented. In the beginning, the chemical additives in the solutions and their effects on the most critical physical properties of the solutions were investigated. Firstly, chemical additives were added to glycol and water mixtures at different weight ratios one by one in order to see their individual effects. Then, the changes in physical properties were observed when the chemicals were a...
