Tamoxifen Increases Membrane Fluidity at High Concentrations
Severcan, Feride; Kazanci, Nadide; Zorlu, Faruk (Portland Press Ltd., 2000-6-1)
There are contradictory results in the literature relating to the effect of tamoxifen on membrane fluidity. The present work investigates the effect of tamoxifen on membrane dynamics to find out whether the concentration of tamoxifen can be one of the factors in this discrepancy. Turbidity (absorbance at 440 nm) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic studies reveal that tamoxifen causes opposite effects on membrane fluidity at low (1 mol.%) and high (30 mol.%) tamoxifen concentrations. Low tamoxifen c...
Tamoxifen-model membrane interactions: An FT-IR study
Boyar, H; Severcan, Feride (1997-06-01)
The temperature- and concentration-induced effects of tamoxifen (TAM) on dipalmitoyl phosphatidylcholine (DPPC) model membranes were investigated by the Fourier transform-infrared (FT IR) spectroscopic technique. An investigation of the C-H stretching region and the C=0 mode reveals that the inclusion of TAM changes the physical properties of the DPPC multibilayers by (i) shifting the main phase transition to lower temperatures; (ii) broadening the transition profile slightly; (iii) disordering the system i...

Catalase adsorption onto cibacron blue F3GA and Fe(III)derivatized poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate) membranes and application to a continuous system
Arica, MY; Denizli, A; Salih, B; Piskin, E; Hasırcı, Vasıf Nejat (1997-06-25)
Poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (poly(HEMA)) membranes were prepared by W-initiated photopolymerization of HEMA in the presence of an initiator (a-a'-azobisisobutyronitrile, AIBN). An affinity dye, i.e. Cibacron Blue F3GA (CB) was incorporated covalently and then complexed with Fe(III) ions. The polyHEMA-CB and polyHEMA-CB-Fe(III) derivatized membranes were used in the adsorption of catalase (CAT). The enzyme-loading capability of the Fe(III)-containing membrane (23.6 mu g/cm(2)) was greater than that of ...
