This thesis describes a universal multimedia access system and its implementation details. In the context of this document, universal multimedia access means accessing multimedia content over ubiquitous computer networks, using different computing platforms. The computer networks involve both wired and wireless networks, and computing platforms involve wired PC, mobile PC and personal digital assistants (PDA). The system is built on a client/server architecture. Video data is H.263 coded and carried over RTP. The Java Media Framework is utilized and its capabilities are extended with special plug-ins when necessary.

Applied supervisory control for a flexible manufacturing system
Moor, Thomas; Schmidt, Klaus Verner; Perk, Sebastian (2010-12-01)
This paper presents a case study in the design and implementation of a discrete event system (DES) of real-world complexity. Our DES plant is a flexible manufacturing system (FMS) laboratory model that consists of 29 interacting components and is controlled via 107 digital signals. Regarding controller design, we apply a hierarchical and decentralised synthesis method from earlier work in order to achieve nonblocking and safe closed-loop behaviour. Regarding implementation, we discuss how digital signals tr...
Parallel decodable channel coding implemented on a MIMO testbed
Aktaş, Tuğcan; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2007)
This thesis considers the real-time implementation phases of a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communication system. The parts which are related to the implementation detail the blocks realized on a field programmable gate array (FPGA) board and define the connections between these blocks and typical radio frequency front-end modules assisting the wireless communication. Two sides of the implemented communication testbed are discussed separately as the transmitter and the receiver parts. In a...
Robot end-effector based sensor integration for tracking moving parts
Konukseven, Erhan İlhan (2000-08-31)
This paper presents a cost-efficient end-effector based infrared proximity sensor integration system and the implementation of fuzzy-logic control algorithm.
Wireless speech recognition using fixed point mixed excitation linear prediction (MELP) vocoder
Acar, D; Karci, MH; Ilk, HG; Demirekler, Mübeccel (2002-07-19)
A bit stream based front-end for wireless speech recognition system that operates on fixed point mixed excitation linear prediction (MELP) vocoder is presented in this paper. Speaker dependent, isolated word recognition accuracies obtained from conventional and bit stream based front-end systems are obtained and their statistical significance is discussed. Feature parameters are extracted from original (wireline) and decoded speech (conventional) and from the quantized spectral information (bit stream) of t...
