This is an attempt to understand the interaction of meanings of brand identity and ءdesigned̕ product from the consumers̕ viewpoint. Brand Identity is taken as the ءconceived̕ identity, which overlaps with concepts of brand image and brand associations. ءDesigned̕ product is analyzed via dimensions of function, form (aesthetic) and symbol. The aim of the thesis is to find patterns of interaction of functional, emotive and symbolic associations for brand identity and the functional, formal (aesthetic) and symbolic communication of the ءdesigned̕ product. A qualitative research paradigm is followed in the thesis, given the emphasis on consumer-constructed meanings. Projective tasks based on dummy models and word associations are used as research tools. The product group included in the study is mobile phones because of high awareness levels and wide interest of the consumers. The context of the interaction is constrained by the nature of product group (fashion and high-tech item) as well as the properties of brands used in the study (Nokia, Motorola and Samsung).

The aspects of aesthetics of interaction: deconstructing the ‘how’ level of user-product interactions
Şen, Güzin; Şener Pedgley, Bahar (null; 2019-05-23)
The term aesthetics of interaction emerged from the need to explain the appreciation of our sensory experience of the products, which goes beyond the appreciation of the visual appearance. In other words, it is used to define/design products which are not only pleasant to look at, but also pleasant to use. The product design literature discusses the aesthetics of interaction through the sensory aspects of the products. However, with the increased embodiment of computing technologies, the interactivity of th...

Encountering the inner face of products: Computer repair practice and amateur computer repairers
Özçelik, Ayşegül; Kaygan, Harun; Department of Industrial Design (2020-8)
Interacting with the inner face of products leads to knowing more than knowing the product as a user. Repair creates an opportunity for the user to interact with the components of the product. This study investigates amateur computer repairers and the amateur computer repair activities including maintenance, upgrading, modification, replacing part, cleaning, and customization by approaching them with practice theoretical framework. The research aims to describe the user-product interaction that is character...
