This thesis describes the theoretical bases, implementation and testing of a multi target tracking approach in radar applications. The main concern in this thesis is the evaluation of the performance of tracking algorithms in the presence of false alarms due to clutter. Multi target tracking algorithms are composed of three main parts: track initiation, data association and estimation. Two methods are proposed for track initiation in this work. First one is the track score function followed by a threshold comparison and the second one is the 2/2 & M/N method which is based on the number of detections. For data association problem, several algorithms are developed according to the environment and number of tracks that are of interest. The simplest method for data association is the nearest-neighbor data association technique. In addition, the methods that use multiple hypotheses like probabilistic data association and joint probabilistic data association are introduced and investigated. Moreover, in the observation to track assignment, gating is an important issue since it reduces the complexity of the computations. Generally, ellipsoidal gates are used for this purpose. For estimation, Kalman filters are used for state prediction and measurement update. In filtering, target kinematics is an important point for the modeling. Therefore, Kalman filters based on different target kinematic models are run in parallel and the outputs of filters are combined to yield a single solution. This method is developed for maneuvering targets and is called interactive multiple modeling (IMM). All these algorithms are integrated to form a multi target tracker that works in the presence (or absence) of clutter. Track score function, joint probabilistic data association (JPDAF) and interactive multiple model filtering are used for this purpose. Keywords: clutter, false alarms, track

Computation of radar cross sections of complex targets by shooting and bouncing ray method
Özgün, Salim; Kuzuoğlu, Mustafa; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2009)
In this study, a MATLAB® code based on the Shooting and Bouncing Ray (SBR) algorithm is developed to compute the Radar Cross Section (RCS) of complex targets. SBR is based on ray tracing and combine Geometric Optics (GO) and Physical Optics (PO) approaches to compute the RCS of arbitrary scatterers. The presented algorithm is examined in two parts; the first part addresses a new aperture selection strategy named as “conformal aperture”, which is proposed and formulated to increase the performance of the cod...
High performance readout electronics for uncooled infrared detector arrays
Yıldırım, Ömer Özgür; Akın, Tayfun; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2006)
This thesis reports the development of high performance readout electronics for resistive microbolometer detector arrays that are used for uncooled infrared imaging. Three different readout chips are designed and fabricated by using a standard 0.6 m CMOS process. Fabricated chips include a conventional capacitive transimpedance amplifier (CTIA) type readout circuit, a novel readout circuit with dynamic resistance nonuniformity compensation capability, and a new improved version of the CTIA circuit. The fabr...
Design and Implementation of a Microprocessor Based Data Collection and Interpretation System with Onboard Graphical Interface
Göksügür, Gökhan; Güran, Hasan Cengiz; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2004)
This thesis reports the design and implementation of a microprocessor based interface unit of a navigation system. The interface unit is composed of a TFT display screen for graphical interface, a Controller Circuit for system control, a keypad interface for external data entrance to the system and a power interface circuit to provide interface between the battery of the navigation system and the Controller Circuit. This thesis reports high speed design of the Controller Circuit and generation of system fun...
A video tracker system for traffic monitoring and analysis
Ocaklı, Mehmet; Demirekler, Mübeccel; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2007)
In this study, a video tracker system for traffic monitoring and analysis is developed. This system is able to detect and track vehicles as they move through the camera’s field of view. This provides to perform traffic analysis about the scene, which can be used to optimize traffic flows and identify potential accidents. The scene inspected in this study is assumed stationary to achieve high performance solution to the problem. This assumption provides to detect moving objects more accurately, as well as ab...
Development of a pc numerical system for high voltage sphere gap control
Kasap, Onur; Hızal, Mirzahan; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2005)
In this thesis, a high precision motion and position control system has been developed and applied to a high voltage sphere gap control and measurement system. The system is able to support up to 3-axes position and motion control. The control system includes a microcontroller card, three DC servo motor driver cards and a data storage unit. To provide communication between computer and motion control system, the Universal Serial Bus (USB) port is used. The microcontroller card is equipped with an USB interf...
