In this study, a P300 based Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) system design is realized by the implementation of the Spelling Paradigm. The main challenge in these systems is to improve the speed of the prediction mechanisms by the application of different signal processing and pattern classification techniques in BCI problems. The thesis study includes the design and implementation of a 10 channel Electroencephalographic (EEG) data acquisition system to be practically used in BCI applications. The electrical measurements are realized with active electrodes for continuous EEG recording. The data is transferred via USB so that the device can be operated by any computer. v Wiener filtering is applied to P300 Speller as a signal enhancement tool for the first time in the literature. With this method, the optimum temporal frequency bands for user specific P300 responses are determined. The classification of the responses is performed by using Support Vector Machines (SVM’s) and Bayesian decision. These methods are independently applied to the row-column intensification groups of P300 speller to observe the differences in human perception to these two visual stimulation types. It is observed from the investigated datasets that the prediction accuracies in these two groups are different for each subject even for optimum classification parameters. Furthermore, in these datasets, the classification accuracy was improved when the signals are preprocessed with Wiener filtering. With this method, the test characters are predicted with 100% accuracy in 4 trial repetitions in P300 Speller dataset of BCI Competition II. Besides, only 8 trials are needed to predict the target character with the designed BCI system.

A new feedback-based contention avoidance algorithm for optical burst switching networks
Toku, Hadi Alper; Schmidt, Şenan Ece; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2008)
In this thesis, a feedback-based contention avoidance technique based on weighted Dijkstra algorithm is proposed to address the contention avoidance problem for Optical Burst Switching networks. Optical Burst Switching (OBS) has been proposed as a promising technique to support high-bandwidth, bursty data traffic in the next-generation optical Internet. Nevertheless, there are still some challenging issues that need to be solved to achieve an effective implementation of OBS. Contention problem occurs when t...
Asynchronous design of systolic array architectures in cmos
İsmailoğlu, Ayşe Neslin; Aşkar, Murat; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2008)
In this study, delay-insensitive asynchronous circuit design style has been adopted to systolic array architectures to exploit the benefits of both techniques for improved throughput. A delay-insensitivity verification analysis method employing symbolic delays is proposed for bit-level pipelined asynchronous circuits. The proposed verification method allows datadependent early output evaluation to co-exist with robust delay-insensitive circuit behavior in pipelined architectures such as systolic arrays. Reg...
A Feedback Quantization Scheme Leveraging Fairness and Throughput for Heterogeneous Multi-User Diversity Systems
SOYDAN, Yusuf; Candan, Çağatay (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2010-06-01)
We propose a feedback quantization scheme for downlink multiuser diversity systems. The scheme is designed for heterogeneous users, i.e., users operating under different levels of mean signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs). The proposed scheme equally distributes the channel access time to user clusters and, at the same time, maximizes the sum-rate capacity under equal-channel-access-time constraint. The method is compared to a normalized SNR scheduler, full-feedback scheduler, and finite-rate feedback scheduler wi...
A new likelihood approach to autonomous multiple model estimation
Söken, Halil Ersin (Elsevier BV, 2020-04-01)
This paper presents an autonomous multiple model (AMM) estimation algorithm for hybrid systems with sudden changes in their parameters. Estimates of Kalman filters (KFs) that are tuned and employed for different system modes are merged based on a newly defined likelihood function without any necessity for filter interaction. The proposed likelihood function is composed of two measures, the filter agility measure and the steady-state error measure. These measures are derived based on filter adaptation rules....
A temporal neural network model for constructing connectionist expert system knowledge bases
Alpaslan, Ferda Nur (Elsevier BV, 1996-04-01)
This paper introduces a temporal feedforward neural network model that can be applied to a number of neural network application areas, including connectionist expert systems. The neural network model has a multi-layer structure, i.e. the number of layers is not limited. Also, the model has the flexibility of defining output nodes in any layer. This is especially important for connectionist expert system applications.
