In this study, strontium was added into the structure of calcium phosphate and coated on Ti6Al4V plates with using biomimetic method. In order to form strontium doped calcium phosphate coatings, 2×SBF with strontium was made with adding SrCl2 while preparing normal 2×SBF. Ti6Al4V plates were used as substrates and their surfaces were abraded and oxidized with pretreatment. These plates were coated in pure (no Sr added), 0.15mM, 1mM and 5mM Sr added 2×SBF. Surface of the coated plates was characterized and analyzed starting at 3rd day of immersion till 18th day by using EDS, SEM, XRD, ICP-MS, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy. Human osteosarcoma cells were used for in vitro analyses. In order to analyze durability of coatings, an aging procedure was applied. According to the SEM results, nucleation already started on third day of coating and by increased immersion time, precipitation increased on nucleation sites. Surface analyses of samples soaked in 5mM Sr added 2×SBF at 6th day of immersion showed that no significant coating was formed on substrate plates and therefore, immersion of 5mM Sr added samples was terminated. EDS and ICP-MS analyses showed that Sr has successfully incorporated into the calcium phosphate structure for both 1mM and 0.15mM Sr added samples. In addition, EDS analyses showed that, with immersion time increased, Ca/P ratio of coatings increased for all types of samples. XRD, Raman and FTIR analyses showed that crystallinity of calcium phosphate coatings was increased with immersing time and hydroxyapatite structure started to form. Crystallinity was seen in the highest for pure samples and higher for 0.15mM than 1mM Sr added samples. In case of in vitro analyses, both aged and non-aged coated samples had similar SEM results. Although cell proliferation was observed slightly higher for pure and 0.15mM Sr added samples than 1mM Sr added samples, it was observed for all types of samples. MTT cell viability test results showed that, pure, 0.15mM Sr added and 1mM Sr added samples had similar cell viability and no significant toxicity was found for these samples.

Catalytic oxidation of nitrogen containing compounds for nitrogen determination
Karakaş, Gürkan (2019-02-15)
The high temperature catalytic oxidation (HTCO) performance of Al2O3 supported Pt, Cu, Cu-Ce and Fe catalysts were systematically studied with a perspective of selective oxidation of nitrogenous compounds to nitric oxide for quantitative determination of bound nitrogen. The catalyst samples were prepared via impregnation and characterized by XRD and BET. In addition, temperature programmed reaction experiments with acetonitrile and oxygen were conducted to evaluate the catalytic activity and selectivity tow...
Polystyrene-organoclay nanocomposites prepared by melt intercalation, in situ, and Masterbatch methods
Yılmazer, Ülkü; Ozden, G (Wiley, 2006-06-01)
In this study, polystyrene (PS)/montmorillonite nanocomposites were prepared by melt intercalation, in situ polymerization, and masterbatch methods. In the masterbatch method, as the first step, a high clay content composite of PS-organoclay (masterbatch) was prepared by in situ polymerization, and then the prepared masterbatch was diluted to desired compositions with commercial PS in a twin-screw extruder. The structure and mechanical properties of the nanocomposites were examined. X-ray diffraction (XRD) ...
Vanadium incorporated high surface area MCM-41 catalysts
Gucbilmez, Y; Doğu, Timur; Balci, S (Elsevier BV, 2005-02-28)
High surface area MCM-41 (1452 m(2)/g) and V-MCM-41 materials were synthesized by a direct hydrothermal synthesis method. Characteristic XRD patterns, SEM and AFM photographs indicated no significant change in the morphology of MCM-41 by incorporation of vanadium. XPS and EDS results proved that incorporation of vanadium into the MCM-41 structure was successfully achieved when vanadyl sulfate hydrate was used as the vanadium source. However, use of ammonium vanadate as the vanadium source was not equally su...
Distyryl-boradiazaindacenes: facile synthesis of novel near IR emitting fluorophores
Dost, Zeynep; Atilgan, Serdar; Akkaya, Engin U. (Elsevier BV, 2006-09-04)
Boradiazaindacenes with methyl substituents at 3 and 5 positions were for the first time shown to undergo efficient double condensation reactions with an aromatic aldehyde yielding a series of extended conjugation dyes. These new fluorophores have absorption maxima in the range of 650-660 nm. The dyes reported here have large quantum yields with 20 nm Stokes' shifted emission peaks. The straightforward synthesis of such red shifted BODIPY derivatives is important in relation to the synthesis of novel and us...
Calcium Phosphate Mineralization on Calcium Carbonate Particle Incorporated Silk-Fibroin Composites
Kapusuz, Derya; Ercan, Batur (2019-09-01)
In this study, three anhydrous forms of calcium carbonate, namely vaterite, aragonite and calcite, with distinct morphologies were incorporated inside silk-fibroin to fabricate composite scaffolds for tissue engineering applications. To assess calcium phosphate mineralization, composite scaffolds were treated with simulated body fluid up to one month. It was observed that composite scaffolds having different calcium carbonate polymorphs expressed different mineralization. Incorporating 25 wt. % of vaterite ...
