In the present study, antileukemic enzyme L-asparaginase (ASNase) was encapsulated into poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) nanocapsules in order to decrease the immunogenicity and toxicity of the enzyme and to increase its in vivo half life in mice.

The Effects of Chloramphenicol on Some Biochemical Parameters in Mice
Ege, Hismiogullari Sahver; Tunay, Kontas; Adil, Hismiogullari Adnan; Dinc, Essiz; Gokhan, Eraslan (2008-12-01)
The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of some dose regimens of chloramphenicol on some biochemical parameters in mice for acute and subacute periods. Chloramphenicol was given to the experimental groups at the doses of 100 mg kg(-1) bw (group 2) and 200 mg kg(-1) bw (group 3) in drinking water for 7 days. Blood samples were taken from all animals on day 0, 1, 7 and 14 of the study. The hepatotoxic effect of cloramphenicol occurred in groups 2 and 3 with increasing doses of cloramphenicol. Hepa...
In vivo response to biodegradable controlled antibiotic release systems
Korkusuz, F; Korkusuz, P; Eksioglu, F; Gursel, I; Hasırcı, Vasıf Nejat (2001-05-01)
In this study, the major goal was to evaluate in vitro and in vivo findings by macroscopy, radiology, and histology to determine the effectiveness of therapy of experimental implant-related osteomyelitis with antibiotic carrier rods constructed of microbial polyesters. The polymers used were poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-4-hydroxyvalerate) [P(3HB-co-4-HB)] and poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxy-valerate) [P(3-HB-co-3-HV)]. Both the Sulperazone(R) and the Duocid(R)-P(3-HB-co-4-HB) rods with a drug to polymer ra...
A Comparative Study for the Evaluation of Two Doses of Ellagic Acid on Hepatic Drug Metabolizing and Antioxidant Enzymes in the Rat
Celik, Gurbet; SEMİZ, ASLI; Karakurt, Serdar; ARSLAN, ŞEVKİ; Adalı, Orhan; ŞEN, ALAATTİN (Hindawi Limited, 2013-01-01)
The present study was designed to evaluate different doses of ellagic acid (EA) in vivo in rats for its potential to modulate hepatic phases I, II, and antioxidant enzymes. EA (10 or 30 mg/kg/day, intragastrically) was administered for 14 consecutive days, and activity, protein, and mRNA levels were determined. Although the cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2B and CYP2E enzyme activities were decreased significantly, the activities of all other enzymes were unchanged with the 10 mg/kg/day EA. In addition, western-blot ...
Medium optimization for cephamycin c overproduction and comparison of antibiotic production by ask, hom, and ask+hom recombinants of streptomyces clavuligerus
Ünsaldı, Eser; Özcengiz, Gülay; Department of Biology (2010)
Streptomyces clavuligerus is well-known for synthesizing several β-lactam antibiotics like cephamycin C which is produced through aspartic acid pathway initiated by aspartokinase (Ask) enzyme encoded by ask. Four different strains were constructed in our laboratory to increase cephamycin C production by S. clavuligerus. TB3585 and BA39 contained extra copies of ask gene on a multicopy plasmid, control strains TBV and BAV contained vector only in wild type strain NRRL3585 and hom-minus background, AK39, resp...
In vitro and in vivo evaluation of the effects of demineralized bone matrix or calcium sulfate addition to polycaprolactone-bioglass composites
ERDEMLİ, ÖZGE; Captug, O.; Bilgili, H.; ORHAN, DİCLEHAN; Tezcaner, Ayşen; Keskin, Dilek (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2010-01-01)
The objective of this study was to improve the efficacy of polycaprolactone/bioglass (PCL/BG) bone substitute using demineralized bone matrix (DBM) or calcium sulfate (CS) as a third component. Composite discs involving either DBM or CS were prepared by compression moulding. Bioactivity of discs was evaluated by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (ESCA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) following simulated body fluid incubation. The closest Calcium/Phosphate ratio to that of hydroxyl carbonate apatit...
