Analyzing the Mimarlik journal: a study on architecture in Turkey in the 1980s
Göloğlu, Sabiha; Altan, Tomris Elvan; Department of History of Architecture (2011)
This thesis aims to examine the transformations that took place in architectural theory and practice in Turkey in the 1980s, and the role of architectural publications in this context, by analyzing the framework that was drawn by the Mimarlık journal. The analysis of Mimarlık is undertaken in relation to architectural developments in the world and in Turkey, and foreign and local counterparts of the journal. The shifting stances of the journal, as the publication of the Chamber of Architects of Turkey, are ...
Geotechnical engineering education in METU and computer aided learning resources
Çokça, Erdal (2008-06-04)
In this paper, the state-of-practice in undergraduate geotechnical engineering (Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering) education in the Department of Civil Engineering of the Middle East Technical University (METU CE) is given. The use of computers in undergraduate courses is becoming a more widespread form of teaching in geotechnical engineering education. This paper also presents a list of web resources (e.g. PC Programs, web-based resources, cd-rom resources) currently available in geotechnical engin...

The specific themes such as students' charactersitics, departments' goals, curriculum, quality, faculty members, resources, instructional and evaluation methods, weaknesses and powerful sides and understanding of instructional technology were investigated in this study. 352 students and...
Modeling and simulations of a micro solar power system
Pehlivanturk, Can; Ozkan, Onur; Baker, Derek Keıth (Wiley, 2014-07-01)
In this paper, the mathematical modeling and simulations of a concentrating solar power system located at the Middle East Technical University Northern Cyprus Campus are presented. The system consists of parabolic trough collectors (PTCs), a propane boiler, an organic Rankine cycle (ORC), and a wet cooling tower. Presently, the PTC field is severely undersized with respect to the ORC making the system impossible to operate without burning significant propane. Expanding the solar field could result in better...
