Bionanocomposites with different loadings of silver (Ag) were prepared via synthesis of Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) using the wet chemical reduction method in the lamellar space layer of the organo-sepiolite/chitosan (O-SEP/CS). The prepared O-SEP/CS/Ag bionanocomposites were characterized using various analysis methods for their structure, morphology, and optical properties. The characteristic absorption bands from the UV-visible absorption spectrum confirmed the formation of AgNPs. The antibacterial activities of O-SEP/CS/Ag bionanocomposites were investigated against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria using the disc diffusion method. The results suggest that O-SEP/CS/Ag bionanocomposites can be useful in wide range of bio-medical applications because of high antibacterial activity.

Preparation and microstructure of sol-gel derived silver-doped silica
Akkopru, Betul; Durucan, Caner (2007-08-01)
Silver-doped silica was prepared by hydrolysis and condensation of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS, Si(OC2H5)(4)) in the presence of a silver nitrate (AgNO3) solution by two different synthesis methods. In the first synthesis route, sol-gel mixtures were prepared using an acid catalyst. In the second synthesis route, silver-doped silica gels were formed by two-step acid/base catalysis. For the same concentration of silver dopant [AgNO3]/[TEOS] = 0.015 acid-catalyzed sol-gel formed a microporous silica with a...
Preparation of lead zirconate titanate (Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O-3) by homogeneous precipitation and calcination
Oren, EE; Tas, AC (1998-05-06)
Aqueous solutions of lead chloride (PbCl2), zirconium oxychloride (ZrOCl2.8H(2)O) and titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4), in appropriate volumetric amounts, were used as the starting materials in the synthesis of phase-pure Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O-3 powders. Preparation of the phase-pure PZT powders were achieved, in the presence of urea (CH4N2O), by the chemical powder synthesis route of homogeneous precipitation.
PURIFICATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF HUMAN MENINGIOMA M2-TYPE PYRUVATE-KINASE
MELLATI, AA; YUCEL, M; ALTINORS, N; Gündüz, Ufuk (1993-10-01)
The M2-type pyruvate kinase was purified from human meningioma by ammonium sulfate precipitation, followed by ion exchange and affinity chromatography. The specific activity of the purified enzyme was 33.4 U/mg with a yield of 6.5%.
Development of highly luminescent and cytocompatible near-IR-emitting aqueous Ag2S quantum dots
Hocaoglu, Ibrahim; Cizmeciyan, M. Natali; ERDEM, Rengin; Özen, Can; KURT, Adnan; Sennaroglu, Alphan; Acar, Havva Yagci (2012-01-01)
Colloidally stable and highly luminescent near-IR emitting Ag2S quantum dots (NIRQDs) were prepared by a very simple aqueous method using 2-mercaptopropionic acid (2MPA) as a coating. Emission of Ag2S-2MPA NIRQDs can be tuned between 780 and 950 nm. These NIRQDs have photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQY) around 7-39% and exhibit excellent cytocompatibility even at 600 mu g mL(-1) in NIH/3T3 cells. With such improved properties, Ag2S-2MPA NIRQDs have a great potential in practical bio-applications.
Preparation, modification, and characterization of acrylic cements
Basgorenay, B; Ulubayram, K; Serbetci, K; Onurhan, E; Hasırcı, Nesrin (2006-03-15)
Acrylic cements with different compositions were prepared by mixing the solid part (composed of poly(methyl methacrylate), PMMA, and benzoyl peroxide, BPO) and the liquid part (composed of methyl methacrylate, MMA, and N,N-dimethyl-p-toluidine, DMPT), modified by addition of hydroxyapatite (HA) and ammonium nitrate (AN) and characterized by measuring thermal and mechanical properties. Three sets of samples were prepared. For B-group, the total amount of solid including HA was constant but the PMMA to HA rat...
