A well-defined polystyrene (PSt) based polymer containing at one end-chain 3.5-dibromobenzene moiety. prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), was modified in two reaction steps. First one constitutes a Suzuki coupling reaction between aromatic dibromine functional polymer and 3-aminophenylboronic acid, when a diamino-containing intermediate was obtained. The second step is a condensation reaction between the diamino functional polystyrene and 2-pyrrole alclehyde. Thus, a polymer containing a conjugated sequence having pyrollyl groups at the extremities was synthesized. The presence of oxidable pyrrole groups in the structure of the polymer permitted further electropolymerization. The structures of intermediate polymers were analyzed by spectral methods (H-1 NMR, FTIR). Electrochemical copolymerization of pyrrole functionalized polymer (PStPy) with pyrrole was carried out in acetonitrile (ACN)-tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate (TBAFB) solvent electrolyte Couple. Characterization of the resulting copolymer were performed via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). scanning electron microscopy (SEM), spectroclectrochemical analysis, and kinetic study. Spectroelectrochemical analysis show that the copolymer of PStPy with Py has an electronic band gap (due to pi-pi* transition) of 2.4 eV at 393 nm, with a yellow color in the fully reduced form and a blue color in the fully oxidized form. Via kinetic studies. the optical contrast %Delta T was found to be 20% for P(PStPy-co-Py). Results showed that the time required to reach 95% of the ultimate T was 1.7 s for the P(PStPy-co-Py).

Synthesis of a new thiophene-based monomer; 5,12-dihydrothieno[3',4':2,3][1,4]dioxocino[6,7-b]quinoxaline (DDQ), was realized. The chemical structure of the monomer was characterized by H-1 NMR, FTIR and mass spectroscopy techniques. Electrochemical polymerization of DDQ and characterization of the resulting polymer [P(DDQ)] was performed. Moreover, the spectroelectrochemical and electrochromic properties of the polymer film were investigated. P(DDQ) has a low oxidation potential (0.9 V) and low band gap (1...
Synthesis and Characterization of 2-Hydroxyethyl Methacrylate (HEMA) and Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) Copolymer Used as Biomaterial

A series of poly(methyl methacrylate-co-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PMMA-co-PHEMA), copolymers were synthesized by an emulsion polymerization technique. Copolymer compositions were determined by FT-IR and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. It was found that comonomer ratios used in the recipes were comparable within the actual copolymers. Glass transition temperatures (Tg) of PMMA-co-PHEMA copolymers were varied from 119 degrees C to 100 degrees C by increasing HEMA content. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that the cop...

Present work displays the preparation of an electrochemical biosensor using a conjugated polymer and laccase enzyme for catechol quantification in samples. The biosensing system is based on an enzyme immobilization on polymer modified graphite transducer surface. For that purpose, a random conjugated polymer, thienothiophene-benzoxadiazole-alt-benzodithiophene (BOTT), was coated onto a graphite electrode surface via drop casting method followed by immobilization of a biomolecule (laccase) for sensing experi...
Synthesis and characterization of conducting and non-conducting polymers of sodium 2,4,6-trichlorophenolate by microwave initiation
Cakmak, O; Basturkmen, M; Kisakurek, D (Elsevier BV, 2004-07-22)
A novel synthesis of poly(dichlorophenylene oxide) and a conducting polymer were achieved simultaneously from 2,4,6-trichlorophenol in a very short time, using microwave energy. The characterizations of poly(dichlorophenylene oxide) and the conducting polymer were performed by DSC, TGA, elemental analysis, FTIR, H-1 and C-13 NMR, SEM, MS and X-ray diffraction spectrometer analyses. The combined molecular weight of the polymer, 1.8 x 10(4), was determined by using viscometry measurement. Poly(dichlorophenyle...
Synthesis and Characterization of Polypyrrole Nanoparticles and Their Nanocomposites with Poly(propylene)
Sevil, Baytekin; Zuhal, Kucukyavuz (2009-07-09)
Conducting polypyrrole (PPy) nanoparticles were synthesized via microemulsion polymerization. PP/PPy nanocomposites were prepared by melt-mixing of polypyrrole with polypropylene (PP) and processed with injection molding. Tensile tests have revealed that increasing amount of PPy increased the strength and the stiffness of the nanocomposite while limiting the elongation of PP. Thermal gravimetric analysis has showed that incorporation of PPy nanoparticles has improved the thermal stability of the nanocomposi...
