A figure of merit for optimization of nanocrystal flash memory design
DANA, Aykutlu; Akca, Imran; AYDINLI, ATİLLA; Turan, Raşit; Finstad, Terje G. (American Scientific Publishers, 2008-02-01)
Nanocrystals can be used as storage media for carriers in flash memories. The performance of a nanocrystal flash memory depends critically on the choice of nanocrystal size and density as well as on the choice of tunnel dielectric properties. The performance of a nanocrystal memory device can be expressed in terms of write/erase speed, carrier retention time and cycling durability. We present a model that describes the charge/discharge dynamics of nanocrystal flash memories and calculate the effect of nanoc...
The electronic structure of capped and uncapped CdS nanoparticles
Ercan, Ilke; Katırcıoğlu, Şenay (American Scientific Publishers, 2008-02-01)
The electronic structure of spherical CdmSn nanoparticles having zinc-blende symmetry and the diameters of up to around 3 nm has been studied by Hartree-Fock theory to find out the effect of the cluster size on the optical energy gap between HOMO and LUMO. The effect of encapsulation on the electronic structure has been also investigated for CdS4 and Cd13S4 clusters embedded in SiO2 matrix and sodalite cage by Hartree-Fock theory. It was found that the energy gap of CdS nanoparticles can be regulated by bot...
Evaluation of the radiative recombination mechanism in Si nanocrystals embedded in silica matrix
Righini, Marcofabio; Gnoli, Andrea; Razzari, Luca; Serincan, Ugur; Turan, Raşit (American Scientific Publishers, 2008-02-01)
We report measurements of the temperature dependence of photoluminescence (PQ life-time and efficiency of Si nanocrystals (Si-Nc) embedded in silica matrix. We use a practical technique based on lock-in acquisition that allows us to simultaneously evaluate, at each emission-energy, intensity and decay-time of the detected signal. Samples are prepared by Silicon-ion implantation in a SiO2 layer followed by thermal annealing. The implantation dose of Si ions ranges between 2 x 10(16) cm(-2) and 2 x 10(17) cm(...
An algorithm for constructing various kinds of nanojunctions using zig-zag and armchair nanotubes
Tasci, Emre; Erkoç, Şakir (American Scientific Publishers, 2007-04-01)
A method for generating various forms of junctions involving armchair and zig-zag nanotubes, firstly introduced by Zsoldos et al., is developed to cover all types of armchair and zig-zag nanotubes in a systematical way. This method can also be used to produce nanogears and toothed canals. The method is explained and flowcharts are included to aid in programming into a code.
Use of Nanoclay as an Environmentally Friendly Flame Retardant Synergist in Polyamide-6
Kaynak, Cevdet; Isitman, Nihat Ali (American Scientific Publishers, 2010-11-01)
Due to their very high levels of flame retardancy, chlorinated and brominated flame retardants had been the most widely used flame retardant additives in plastics industry. However, these flame retardants lead to formation of very toxic volatiles and by-products during fire. Therefore, the recent trend is to replace all of them with non-halogenated flame retardants. In this respect, the use of nanoclays as a synergist flame retardant is becoming more and more important. Thus, the main aim of this work was t...
