Fabrication of gallic acid loaded Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose nanofibers by electrospinning technique as active packaging material

The objective of this study was to encapsulate gallic acid in Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC)/poly-ethylene oxide (PEO) blend nanofiber by using electrospinning and examine the usage of nanofibers as active packaging materials. Gallic acid loaded nanofibers showed homogenous morphology. Gallic acid was loaded into nanofibers efficiently and nanofibers showed strong antioxidant activity. As the gallic acid amount increased, the TGA curves had shifted one stage to two stage degradation and degradation temperature (T-d) of gallic acid decreased from 275 degrees C to 250 degrees C due to the crystalline structure change. Interaction between gallic acid and HPMC/PEO nanofiber demonstrated that gallic acid successfully embedded into the nanofibers. Gallic acid loaded nanofibers decreased the oxidation of walnut during storage. Overall, electrospinning technique was proved to be an efficient method to encapsulate bioactive compounds and gallic acid loaded nanofibers showed promissory results that can be suggested as great potential to active packaging material.

In this study, two new benzotriazole (BTz) and dithienothiophene (DTT) containing conjugated polymers were synthesized. After successful characterizations of the monomers by proton-nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) and carbon-NMR (13C NMR) techniques, poly(4-(dithieno[3, 2-b:2,3-d]thiophen-2-yl)-2-(2-octyldodecyl)-2H-benzo[d][1,2,3] triazole) P1 and poly(4-(5-(dithieno[3,2-b:2,3-d]thiophen-2-yl)thiophen-2-yl)-2-(2-octyldodecyl)-7-(thiophen-2-yl)-2H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazole) P2 were synthesized via a typica...
Polymerization of 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate in bulk and solution by chemical initiator and by ATRP method
Vargun, E; Usanmaz, Ali (Wiley, 2005-09-01)
In this study, 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA) was polymerized to obtain polymers that can be used as hydrogel and copolymerized for biomedical applications. Bulk, solution, and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) techniques at different temperatures were applied. The polymerization in bulk form was carried out in vacuum and in open atmosphere. The polymerization curves showed autoacceleration mechanism and the limiting conversion was 100%. The polymers obtained were insoluable in most common solvents...
Characterization and Electrical Conductivity of Poly(ethylene glycol)/Polyacrylonitrile/Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube Composites
Aqeel, Salem M.; Kucukyavuz, Zuhal (Wiley, 2011-01-05)
Polymer blends based on poly(ethylene glycol), polyacrylonitrile, and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were prepared by the solvent cast technique from the dispersion of the MWNTs in the concentration range 0-3.45 wt %. The interaction of the MWNTs with the polymer blend was confirmed by a Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy study. The thermal properties of the polymer blend with the MWNTs were carried out by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). It was evident from DSC that the p...

Kiskan, Baris; Yagci, Yusuf; Sahmetlioglu, Ertugrul; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Wiley, 2007-03-15)
precursors were prepared by oxidative polymerization 3-phenyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-benzo[e][1,3] oxazine (P-a) alone and in the presence of thiophene (Th) with ceric ammonium nitrate in acetonitrile. The structure of the precursors was confirmed by FTIR, H-1 NMR, and DSC measurements, indicating the presence of a cyclic benzoxazine structure, together with small but varying amount of a ring opened phenolic structure. The resulting polymers exhibit conductivities around 10(-2) S cm(-1) and undergo thermal curing a...

Atak, Samed; Icli-Ozkut, Merve; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar; CİHANER, ATİLLA (Wiley, 2011-10-15)
Optical and electrochemical properties of regiosymmetric and soluble alkylenedioxyselenophene-based electrochromic polymers, namely poly(3,3-dibutyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-seleno pheno [3,4-b][1,4]dioxephine) (PProDOS-C(4)), poly(3,3-dihexyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-selenopheno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxephine) (PProDOS-C(6)), and poly(3,3-didecyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-selenopheno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxephine) (PProDOS-C(10)), are highlighted. It is noted that these unique polymers have low bandgaps (1.57-1.65 eV), and they are exceptionally stable ...
