This work aims the preparation and catalytic use of copper(0) nanoparticles supported on ceria as catalyst in dehydrogenation of dimethylamine borane. They were in situ generated from the reduction of Cu2+/CeO2 during the catalytic dehydrogenation of dimethylamine borane in toluene. The results of characterization by using XRD, SEM, SEM-EDX, TEM, UV-vis, XPS techniques reveal the formation of highly dispersed copper(0) nanoparticles with average particle size of 3.1 +/- 0.8 nm on the surface of ceria nanopowders. Cu(0)/CeO2 nanoparticles are active catalysts releasing 1.0 equiv. H-2 per mole of dimethylamine borane. The catalytic activity of Cu(0)/CeO2 shows variation with the copper loading of ceria and the highest catalytic activity is achieved by using Cu(0)/CeO2 sample with a copper loading of 4.0 wt.% Cu which provides a turnover frequency value of 40 h(-1) and 225 turnovers in hydrogen generation from dimethylamine borane at 60.0 +/- 0.5 degrees C. The equation for the catalytic reaction was established by determining all the products. We performed the kinetic studies for understanding the catalytic dehydrogenation of dimethylamine borane in molecular level. The results of kinetic study reveal that the reaction is first order with respect to catalyst concentration. The work reported here also includes the kinetic study depending on the temperature to determine the activation energy (E-2 = 76 +/- 2 kJ/mol).

Manganese(0) nanoparticles are isolated from the reaction solution by centrifugation and characterized by a combination of analyti...
Ceria supported rhodium nanoparticles: Superb catalytic activity in hydrogen generation from the hydrolysis of ammonia borane
Akbayrak, Serdar; Tonbul, Yalcin; Özkar, Saim (2016-12-05)
We investigated the effect of various oxide supports on the catalytic activity of rhodium nanoparticles in hydrogen generation from the hydrolysis of ammonia borane. Among the oxide supports (CeO2, SiO2, Al2O3, TiO2, ZrO2, HfO2) ceria provides the highest catalytic activity for the rhodium(0) nanoparticles in the hydrolysis of ammonia borane. Rhodium(0) nanoparticles supported on nanoceria (Rh-0/CeO2) were prepared by the impregnation of rhodium(III) ions on the surface of ceria followed by their reduction ...

Ruthenium(0) nanoparticles supported on ceria (Ru-0/CeO2) were in situ generated from the reduction of ruthenium(III) ions impregnated on ceria during the hydrolysis of ammonia borane. Ru-0/CeO2 was isolated from the reaction solution by centrifugation and characterized by ICP-OES, BET, XRD, TEM, SEM-EDS and XPS techniques. All the results reveal that ruthenium(0) nanoparticles were successfully supported on ceria and the resulting Ru-0/CeO2 is a highly active, reusable and long-lived catalyst for hydrogen ...
Nanoalumina supported palladium(0) nanoparticle catalyst for releasing H-2 from dimethylamine borane

Palladium(II) 2,4-pentanedionate, impregnated on alumina nanopowder, was reduced by dimethylamine borane (DMAB) forming Pd(0) nanoparticles (NPs) at room temperature. Pd(0) NPs could be isolated from solution and characterized by ATR-IR, UV-vis, XRD, SEM, TEM, XPS and BET. The results obtained from TEM images reveal the formation of palladium(0) nanoparticles on gamma-alumina, having a mean particle size of 7.1 +/- 2.6 nm. Alumina supported Pd(0) NPs with various metal loadings were employed as catalyst in ...
Hydrogen generation from the hydrolysis of hydrazine-borane catalyzed by rhodium(0) nanoparticles supported on hydroxyapatite
Celik, Derya; Karahan, Senem; Zahmakiran, Mehmet; Özkar, Saim (2012-03-01)
Herein, we report the preparation and characterization of rhodium(0) nanoparticles supported on hydroxyapatite (Ca-10(OH)(2)(PO4)(6), HAP) and their catalytic use in the hydrolysis of hydrazine-borane, which attracts recent attention as promising hydrogen storage materials. Hydroxyapatite supported rhodium(0) nanoparticles were readily prepared by the hydrazine-borane reduction of rhodium(III)-exchanged hydroxyapatite in situ during the hydrolysis of hydrazine-borane at room temperature. Characterization of...
