In this.study, the effects of composition and sintering temperature on the microstructural characteristics of liquid phase sintered 90W-Ni-Co alloys were investigated. 90W-Ni-Co alloys having Ni/Co ratios of 3/1, 4/1 and 6/1 were examined. It was found that the alloys studied have reached almost to full density when sintered at and above 1475 degrees C. The microstructures of the alloys were typical of liquid phase sintered alloys, which consisted of rounded, nearly pure W grains embedded in a ternary Ni-Co-W binder matrix phase. The binder matrix phase in these alloys was observed to dissolve up to 42 wt.% W. The relative amount of the binder matrix phase and the average size of the W grains were found to increase with increasing sintering temperature. The activation energies for grain coarsening are determined for the investigated alloys by assuming that the coarsening process is mainly governed by Ostwald ripening mechanisms in the liquid state. The calculated activation energies, which were within 113-162 kj/mol range, were found to be in rather close agreement to the literature data given for W-Ni-Fe alloys. This indicates that grain coarsening in W-Ni-Co and W-Ni-Fe alloys most probably takes place through similar diffusional processes.

Liquid phase sintering of tungsten-nickel-cobalt heavy alloys
Dinçer, Onur; Kalkanlı, Ali; Karakaya, İshak; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2014)
The aim of this thesis study was to investigate the effects of composition and sintering variables on the microstructural characteristics of W-rich W-Ni-Co heavy alloys. W-Ni-Co alloys containing 90 to 97 wt% W and different Ni/Co ratios were investigated in the study. The alloys studied were produced by applying conventional powder metallurgy methods and subjected to microstructural and mechanical characterization by using suitable techniques. All of the alloys investigated reached almost full density when...
Production and characterization of layer by layer sputtered single-phase AgInSe2 thin film by thermal selenization
KALELİ, Murat; ÇOLAKOĞLU, TAHİR; Parlak, Mehmet (Elsevier BV, 2013-12-01)
In this study highly stoichiometric and monophase AgInSe2 thin films were prepared by selenization of Ag-InSe precursors and the effect of the annealing temperature on the structural, electrical and optical properties have been investigated. The Se incorporation during selenization process as a function of temperature and the compositions of the samples were determined by energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX). As prepared and selenized films were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning elect...
Processing and characterization of high density tungsten-nickel-iron alloys
Çalışkan, Necmettin Kaan; Bor, Şakir; Durlu, Nuri; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2013)
In the present study, processing of W-Ni-Fe alloys by liquid phase sintering technique has been investigated. Effect of sintering atmospheres (hydrogen and vacuum), tungsten content altering from 90 to 97 wt.%, Ni/Fe ratio varied from 2 to 4 and post sintering treatments (heat treatment and swaging) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of W-Ni-Fe alloys have been analyzed. Liquid phase sintered alloys were characterized by mechanical tests, electron microscopy and XRD studies, thermal analyses an...
DEVELOPMENT OF PB-RICH (BI, PB)3SR2CA2CU1OX PHASE DURING REFORMATION OF LEAD DOPED 2223 SUPERCONDUCTING PHASE FROM MELT QUENCHED GLASS
Özkan, Necati (1992-05-01)
The reformation process of the lead doped superconducting 2223 phase from the melt quenched glass was investigated. It was shown that during the crystallisation of the glass a new lead rich phase, Bi0.5Pb3Sr2Ca2CU1Ox, was formed and severe copper segregation was observed. The volume fraction of the high T(c) 2223 phase increased with annealing time for an annealing temperature of 840-degrees-C. A glass sample annealed at 840-degrees-C for 150 h showed two superconducting transitions T(c) = 107 K and T(c) = ...
Production and characterisation of PMN-PT piezoceramics modified by yttrium and bismuth
Camurlu, HE; Timucin, M (2004-01-01)
This study was carried out to investigate the effects of Bismuth (Bi+3) and Yttrium (y(+3)) on the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of Lead Magnesium Niobate-Lead Titanate (PMN-PT) compositional system. The ceramic powders were produced by thermal synthesis using a modified mixed oxide technique. The sintering parameters were optimized for developing piezoelectric ceramics with enhanced piezoelectric strain coefficients.
