In this work, electrically conductive silver nanowire (Ag NW) filled polylactide (PLA) nanocomposites were fabricated and characterized. Ag NWs/PLA nanocomposite films were fabricated using simple solution mixing method and casted onto glass substrates via doctor blading. Following the obtainment of free standing nanocomposites through peeling off, electrical conductivity of the fabricated nano composites, interfacial interactions between Ag NWs and PLA as well as nanocomposite morphology, degree of alignment of Ag NWs, transition temperature and crystallinity among with mechanical performance were investigated. NWs showed good dispersion within the PLA matrix. Due to their high aspect ratio (approximate to 150), a percolation threshold of 0.13 vol% was measured for the nanocomposites. Conductivity of the nanocomposites at the maximum loading (1.74 vol%) was measured as 27 S/m. It was also found that the transition temperatures of PLA matrix remain the same following the formation of nanocomposites. The results obtained herein revealed the potential of these nanocomposite films for electrostatic packaging and electromagnetic shielding applications.

Mechanical, electrical and thermal properties of carbon fiber reinforced poly(dimethylsiloxane)/polypyrrole composites
Cakmak, G; Kucukyavuz, Z; Kucukyavuz, S; Cakmak, H (2004-01-01)
Conductive and flexible carbon fiber (CF) reinforced polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)/polypyrrole (PPy) composites were synthesized electrochemically. Electrochemical synthesis was performed at + 1.1 V using p-toluenesulfonic acid as supporting electrolyte and water as solvent. Composites were characterized by thermal gravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), conductivity measurements and mechanical tests. Conductivities of composites were observed in the range of 2.2-4 S/cm. SEM studies show tha...
Electrical transport, optical and thermal properties of polyaniline-pumice composites
YILMAZ, KORAY; Akgoz, A.; Cabuk, M.; Karaagac, H.; KARABULUT, ORHAN; YAVUZ, Mustafa (2011-11-01)
In this study, electrical conductivity, photoconductivity, absorbance and thermal properties of polyaniline (PANI) and polyaniline-pumice composites were investigated. Temperature dependent conductivity and photoconductivity measurements were carried out in the temperature range of 80-400K. The measurements revealed that the dominant conduction mechanisms in polyaniline and 15% pumice doped composite were hopping conduction. The low activation energies calculated for 36% pumice doped composite indicated tha...
Coaxial silver nanowire/polypyrrole nanocomposite supercapacitors
YÜKSEL, Recep; ALPUGAN, Ece; Ünalan, Hüsnü Emrah (2018-01-01)
Three-dimensional (3D) core-shell silver nanowire (Ag NW) -polypyrrole (PPy) nanocomposites are used for the fabrication of supercapacitors. In-situ chemical polymerization of PPy onto Ag NWs results in the formation of diameter tunable, coaxial and 3D nanocomposites. Inner Ag NW core facilitates the charge transfer and PPy shell shows a remarkably high pseudocapacitance. Fabricated Ag NW/PPy nanocomposite has a specific capacitance of 509 F g(-1) at a current density of 0.31 A g(-1), while the energy and p...
Mechanical and microstructural evaluations of hot formed titanium sheets by electrical resistance heating process
Ozturk, Fahrettin; Ece, Remzi Ecmel; Polat, Naki; Koksal, Arif; Evis, Zafer; Polat, Aytekin (Elsevier BV, 2013-08-20)
In this study, effect of temperature in the electrical resistance heating process on mechanical properties and microstructures of commercially pure titanium grade 2 (CP2) and Ti-6Al-4V (T64) alloy sheets was investigated. Sheets were successfully heated by the electric resistance heating process, and their mechanical properties and microstructures were evaluated. Ductilities of both materials were increased significantly after 400 degrees C. Results indicate that no significant change was observed in grain ...
