Polystyrene-b-poly(2-vinyl phenacyl pyridinium hexafluorophosphate) (PS-b-PVPP) was synthesized by reacting polystyrene-b-poly(2-vinyl pyridine) prepared by living anionic polymerization with phenacyl bromide followed by counter anion exchange reaction. The ability of PS-b-PVPP to act as a photoinitiator for both free radical and cationic polymerizations is demonstrated. In the free radical polymerization, the initiation step involves the decay of the excited state of the salt with homolytic bond rupture of the nitrogen carbon bond. For the cationic polymerization, homolytic cleavage followed by electron transfer and/or heterolytic scission reactions are responsible for the generation of reactive species. Photoinduced switching behavior of PS-b-PVPP from ionic to neutral state was also demonstrated by surface analysis, particle size and film thickness measurements.

New aryl butenoic acid derivatives have been synthesized by combining hydroxy- or methoxy-substituted phenyl rings as the capping group, with a double bond in the short linker as well as metal binding groups, enoic ester, and salts bearing either methyl or morpholine. These compounds have been shown to possess promising histone deacetylase inhibition activities via in vitro fluorometric assay and molecular docking studies.

Zinc borate was prepared from the reaction of zinc oxide and boric acid in the absence or presence of cumene terminated poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride), PSMA, added as a surfactant at varying concentrations (0.1-1 wt.% of water) to the reaction medium to investigate its effect on the growth and agglomeration of particles during reaction. Synthesized zinc borates were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) in comparison to unmodifie...
Economic synthesis of quinaldinium fluorochromate(VI), (QnFC), and solvent-free periodic acid oxidation of alcohols catalyzed by QnFC
Özdemir, Melek (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, 2014-01-01)
A 1: 1: 1 stoichiometric reaction between CrO3, aqueous HF, and quinaldine affords orange crystalline quinaldinium fluorochromate(VI) (QnFC) (C10H9NH[CrO3F]) in 99.4% isolated yield. A highly efficient, simple, chemoselective, and environmentally benign procedure for QnFC (3 mol%) catalyzed oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols to aldehydes and ketones using 1.1 equiv of H5IO6 under solvent-free conditions is described.
Proquinoidal-Conjugated Polymer as an Effective Strategy for the Enhancement of Electrical Conductivity and Thermoelectric Properties

P-doping of conjugated polymers requires electron transfer from the conjugated polymer to the p-dopant. This implies that the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) of the conjugated polymer has to be higher than the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of the p-dopant. Although commonly used p-dopants such as 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (F4TCNQ) have a low LUMO of -5.24 eV, most conjugated polymers used in high-performance field-effect transistors are donor- acceptor-type ...

Within the framework of non-relativistic quantum mechanics via the Nikiforov-Uvarov (NU) method, we obtained the energy eigenvalues and the corresponding normalized eigenfunctions of a newly proposed screened Kratzer potential for lithium hydride (LiH) and hydrogen chloride (HCl) diatomic molecules. With the help of the Hellman-Feynman theorem, the expressions for the expectation values of the square of inverse of position, r(-2), inverse of position, r(-1), kinetic energy, T, and square of momentum, p(2), ...
