Rapid multi-orientation quantitative susceptibility mapping
Bilgic, Berkin; Xie, Luke; Dibb, Russell; Langkammer, Christian; Mutluay, Aysegul; Ye, Huihui; Polimeni, Jonathan R.; Augustinack, Jean; Liu, Chunlei; Wald, Lawrence L.; Setsompop, Kawin (Elsevier BV, 2016-01-15)
Three-dimensional gradient echo (GRE) is the main workhorse sequence used for susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI), quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM), and susceptibility tensor imaging (STI). Achieving optimal phase signal-to-noise ratio requires late echo times, thus necessitating a long repetition time (TR). Combined with the large encoding burden of whole-brain coverage with high resolution, this leads to increased scan time. Further, the dipole kernel relating the tissue phase to the underlying...
A wide-bandwidth high-sensitivity mems gyroscope
Şahin, Korhan; Akın, Tayfun; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2008)
This thesis reports the development of a wide-bandwidth high-sensitivity mode-decoupled MEMS gyroscope showing robustness against ambient pressure variations. The designed gyroscope is based on a novel 2 degrees of freedom (DoF) sense mode oscillator, which allows increasing the operation bandwidth to the amount required by tactical-grade and inertial-grade operations while reaching the mechanical sensitivity of near matched-mode vibratory gyroscopes. Thorough theoretical study and finite element simulation...
Advanced workflow for multi-well tracer test analysis in a geothermal reservoir
Bayer, Peter; AKIN, TAYLAN; Akın, Serhat (2022-05-01)
Interpretation of tracer tests in geothermal reservoirs is carried out by fitting the measured data either with simplified two-dimensional (2-D) analytical solutions or with complex numerical models. Available analytical solutions commonly only describe isotropic conditions in 1-D or 2-D, which is generally unsatisfactory to construct realistic reservoir models. Moreover, due to the large spatial and temporal scale of a tracer test in deep reservoirs, the concentration levels measured in the field are relat...
Advanced light trapping interface for a-Si:H thin film
Nasser, Hisham; Saleh, Zaki M.; Ozkol, Engin; Bek, Alpan; Turan, Raşit (2015-04-29)
Surface texturing of transparent conducting oxides and plasmonic interfaces are two important techniques used separately in thin film solar cells to reduce reflection and enhance light-trapping. In this study, we merge the effects of Al:ZnO surface texturing and Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) plasmonics in a single light-trapping interface to investigate their combined light trapping efficiency on a-Si:H thin film. Light scattered by this interface is optimized by placing a thin SiO2 spacer layer between AgNPs an...
A low-cost uncooled infrared microbolometer detector in standard CMOS technology
Tezcan, DS; Eminoglu, S; Akın, Tayfun (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2003-02-01)
This paper reports the development of a low-cost uncooled infrared microbolometer detector using a commercial 0.8 mum CMOS process, where the CMOS n-well layer is used as the infrared sensitive material. The n-well is suspended by front-end bulk-micromachining of the fabricated CMOS dies using electrochemical etch-stop technique in TMAH. Since this approach does not require any lithography or infrared sensitive material deposition after CMOS fabrication, the detector cost is almost equal to the CMOS chip co...
