UTILIZATION OF CURCUMIN AND BIODEGRADABLE POLYMERS IN INTELLIGENT AND ACTIVE FOOD PACKAGING
YILDIZ, Eda; Şümnü, Servet Gülüm; Kahyaoğlu, Leyla Nesrin; Department of Food Engineering (2022-12-21)
The main purpose of this study is to produce smart and active packages with curcumin using biodegradable polymers. To fulfill this aim, two different film making methods namely electrospinning and casting were used. Firstly, to take benefit of the halochromic properties of curcumin, it was encapsulated into chitosan/PEO based nanofibers to monitor food freshness. The average diameter of the fibers was found to be between 283 ± 27 nm and 338 ± 35 nm. It was concluded that increasing the chitosan amount in na...
Development of Hydrogen Separation Membrane in Palladium Based Ternary Systems
Köse, Mehmet Mert; Öztürk, Tayfur; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2022-1-25)
A study was carried out into dense metallic membranes for hydrogen separation. Two palladium-based system were characterized Pd-Mn-Ag and Pd-Co-Ni. Membranes were produced via sputter deposition in combinatorial geometry. For this purpose, sputter targets were arranged in triangular manner, and there were total of 21 substrates just above the targets. Membranes were screened via resistivity measurements under argon and hydrogen carried out up to 450 oC. A reactivity index defined as resistivity under hydrog...
DEVELOPMENT OF BORIDES/BORATES FOR ENERGY STORAGE DEVICES
Bahtiyar, Doruk; Aydınol, Mehmet Kadri; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2022-9)
For many years, materials in the form of metal sulfides, oxides, phosphates, and titanates have been developed as cathode and anode active materials to be used in energy storage devices. Borides and borates, recently, attracted the attention of researchers in this field. In this study, for the development of a new class of materials for energy storage applications, synthesis and characterization of metal (Fe, Mo, Mn, and V) borides and (Mn, and Y)borates were carried out. The obtained materials were tested ...
DEVELOPMENT OF STRENGTH REDUCTION FACTORS FOR PERFORMANCE-BASED SEISMIC DESIGN OF BRIDGES IN FAR-FAULT SEISMIC REGIONS
Rabaia, Tareq Z. S.; Dicleli, Murat; Department of Engineering Sciences (2021-9)
In this thesis, a methodology to develop strength reduction factors for performance-based seismic design of bridges in far-fault seismic regions is presented. The presented methodology is mainly based on performing linear 5%-damped response spectrum analyses (RSA) and nonlinear time history analyses (NTHA) of bridge piers modeled as single degree of freedom (SDOF) systems. Bridge piers of both circular and rectangular sections are analyzed for wide ranges of various design parameters considering several sub...
Production of high sulfur forging steels at Çemtaş steel plant
Gitmez, Cenk; Sevinç, Naci; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2003)
This study was undertaken with the objective of determining the operation practice to be followed in production of forging quality aluminum killed steels with high sulfur contents in Çemtaş Steel Plant. Nowadays, many steel grades used in the automotive industry are required both to have improved rracliining characteristics and to be fully killed, Le. deoxidized with aluminum. The product which is manufactured as hot-rolled bars in steelmaking company is shaped with forging process and then, subjected to a ...
