Cardiovascular Implantable Electronic Devices (CIED) are gaining popularity in treating patients with heart disease. Remote monitoring through care management systems enables continuous surveillance of such patients by checking device functions and clinical events. These care management systems include decision support capabilities based on clinical guidelines. Data input to such systems are from different information sources including medical devices and Electronic Health Records (EHRs). Although evidence-based clinical guidelines provides numerous benefits such as standardized care, reduced costs, efficient and effective care management, they are currently underutilized in clinical practice due to interoperability problems among different healthcare data sources. In this paper, we introduce the iCARDEA care management system for atrial fibrillation patients with implant devices and describe how the iCARDEA care plan engine executes the clinical guidelines by seamlessly accessing the EHR systems and the CIED data through standard interfaces.

Experimental and numerical investigation on soft tissue dynamic response due to turbulence-induced arterial vibration
Salman, Huseyin Enes; Yazıcıoğlu, Yiğit (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2019-08-01)
Peripheral arterial occlusive disease is a serious cardiovascular disorder. The arterial occlusion leads to turbulent flow and arterial sound generation on the inner vessel wall. Stenosis-induced vibro-acoustic waves propagate through the surrounding soft tissues and reach the skin surface. In this study, the feasibility of noninvasive acoustic detection of the peripheral arterial stenosis is investigated using the vibration responses by means of experimental and computational models. Latex rubber tube is u...
Psychometric properties of the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale and other physician-rated psychiatric scales for the assessment of depression in ESRD patients undergoing hemodialysis in Turkey
Gençöz, Faruk; Gençöz, Tülin (Informa UK Limited, 2007-08-01)
This study aimed to examine the reliability and validity of clinician-rated psychiatric scales for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD) treatment in Turkey. For this, the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS), Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) Scale, Clinical Global Impression (CGI) Scale, and Mini Mental State Exam (MMSE) were administered to 45 ESRD outpatients undergoing HD treatment. Regarding the reliability of HDRS and HARS, ...
Breath sensors for lung cancer diagnosis
Adiguzel, Yekbun; Külah, Haluk (Elsevier BV, 2015-03-15)
The scope of the applications of breath sensors is abundant in disease diagnosis. Lung cancer diagnosis is a well-fitting health-related application of this technology, which is of utmost importance in the health sector, because lung cancer has the highest death rate among all cancer types, and it brings a high yearly global burden. The aim of this review is first to provide a rational basis for the development of breath sensors for lung cancer diagnostics from a historical perspective, which will facilitat...
Providing Semantic Interoperability Between Clinical Care and Clinical Research Domains
Laleci, Gokce Banu; Yuksel, Mustafa; Doğaç, Asuman (2013-03-01)
Improving the efficiency with which clinical research studies are conducted can lead to faster medication innovation and decreased time to market for new drugs. To increase this efficiency, the parties involved in a regulated clinical research study, namely, the sponsor, the clinical investigator and the regulatory body, each with their own software applications, need to exchange data seamlessly. However, currently, the clinical research and the clinical care domains are quite disconnected because each use ...
Dual growth factor delivery using PLGA nanoparticles in silk fibroin/PEGDMA hydrogels for articular cartilage tissue engineering
Fathi-Achachelouei, Milad; Keskin, Dilek; Bat, Erhan; Vrana, Nihal E.; Tezcaner, Ayşen (Wiley, 2020-07-01)
Degeneration of articular cartilage due to damages, diseases, or age-related factors can significantly decrease the mobility of the patients. Various tissue engineering approaches which take advantage of stem cells and growth factors in a three-dimensional constructs have been used for reconstructing articular tissue. Proliferative impact of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and chondrogenic differentiation effect of transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-beta 1) over mesenchymal stem cells have previou...
