Improving the overall quality of buildings is the main motivation behind the development of computer aided technologies in the ArchitectureEngineering- Construction (AEC) industry. A seamless design and evaluation environment has been envisioned by researchers since the early days of computational design but the integrated design system has been elusive for the last 30 years. With the recent focus on environmental sustainability, topics in building performance are gaining importance at many educational institutions. However, the lack of a proper computational environment for integrated design is a major hurdle for both students and professionals. This paper will summarize the history of integrated design research and thus hopes to help educators plan for multidisciplinary coursework.

The purpose of this research is to determine the position of three-dimensional modeling and digital visualization within the scope of concept and product development process in the undergraduate education in Middle East Technical University Faculty of Architecture Department of Industrial Design, designate the problems that the students encounter during the integration of these methods to the design process, and finally question how these methods can be incorporated into design education in order to influen...
An exploratory study on features of intelligent office buildings and development of an assessment tool
Gündoğan, Handan; Dikmen Toker, İrem; Atasoy Özcan, Güzide; Department of Civil Engineering (2021-12)
Intelligent office buildings have a high-tech image that embraces advanced technologies to enhance the quality of life for building occupants and energy efficiency. The literature's exploration of the Intelligent Building (IB) concept indicated that the concept has broad aspects, which resulted in losing its focus. In this regard, this thesis aims to address two central questions of how the IB concept is currently interpreted by the building sector representatives and what are the intelligent features of an...
An Investigation of building information modeling maturity in turkish small-medium size enterprises architectural and engineering firms

Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry experiences Building Information Modeling (BIM) transition process in all over the world. As the firms have advanced on BIM implementation, a necessity to benchmark the BIM performance has emerged. A couple of assessment tools were released for the sector to be used by organizations, individuals and governments to benchmark the BIM implementation maturity. The architecture and engineering firms in Turkey are also in the midst of BIM transition. Howev...
An investigation of legal aspects of BIM in construction contracts
Kaya, Fatih; Akçamete Güngör, Aslı; Birgönül, Mustafa Talat (null; 2019-04-17)
Building Information Modeling (BIM) has been adopted worldwide in recent years as a novel way of working that enables efficiency in the construction industry. Lately, numerous countries made it compulsory to utilize BIM in public construction projects. Similarly, BIM became a contractual requirement in some public infrastructure and Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) projects in Turkey. However, in order to benefit from the advantages of BIM, some legal concerns such as intellectual property, liability, legal val...
