Automated Generation of Customized Field Data Collection Templates to Support Information Needs of Cost Estimators
Kiziltas, Semiha; Akinci, Burcu (American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 2010-03-01)
While estimating activity production rates, cost estimators rely on historical production rates. To have realistic and useful cost estimates based on historical production rates, such production rate data should be augmented with historical contextual information that depict conditions under which activity production rates were achieved in past projects. This information is needed in determining which production rate to use among alternates for a similar activity existing in a new bid. Estimators need conte...
Automatic reconstruction of broken 3-D surface objects
Üçoluk, Göktürk; Toroslu, İsmail Hakkı (Elsevier BV, 1999-08-01)
The problem of reconstruction of broken surface objects embedded in 3-D space is handled. A coordinate independent representation for the crack curves is developed. A new robust matching algorithm is proposed which serves for finding matching pieces even when some brittle pieces are missing. A prototype system having an X-based GUI has been developed. This system generates artifical wire-frame data of broken pieces (with some noise) for a pot-shaped 3-D object and then recombines it using the proposed algor...
Automated Sizing of Truss Structures Using a Computationally Improved SOPT Algorithm
Hasançebi, Oğuzhan (2013-06-01)
The present study attempts to apply an efficient yet simple optimization (SOPT) algorithm to optimum design of truss structures under stress and displacement constraints. The computational efficiency of the technique is improved through avoiding unnecessary analyses during the course of optimization using the so-called upper bound strategy (UBS). The efficiency of the UBS integrated SOPT algorithm is evaluated through benchmark sizing optimization problems of truss structures and the numerical results are r...
