Identifying Success Factors for WBLMS Use by Instructors of Engineering Departments

2010-10-30
Implementation of web-based learning management systems as a supportive tool in higher education has become so popular with the rapid expansion of information technologies. However, users' acceptance is the primary issue to be considered for the successful implementation and management processes of the systems. In this context, this study aims to understand behavioral intentions of engineering instructors towards web-based learning management systems and further to identify the influencing factors based on the Theory of Planned Behavior, Technology Acceptance Model, Innovation Diffusion Theory, and Social Cognitive Theory. A comprehensive survey was conducted with 123 engineering instructors and evaluated using structural equation modeling to verify the proposed theoretical model. As a result, the relationships between the factors are detected to explain and predict the adoption of engineering academicians towards web-based learning management system through discussing the implication of this study and future research directions.

Work in Progress - Learning Management Systems Acceptances of Instructors from Various Departments: Empirical Investigation
Özkan Yıldırım, Sevgi (2010-10-30)
Development of a learning management system requires a multidisciplinary approach and comparison of instructors' adoption in different departments towards system use is one of the most important targets to be considered. The purpose of this study is to identify the salient factors related with the instructors' adoption of learning management system and to reveal the differences between Engineering and Arts and Science and Education instructors' intention towards the use of system. The result of this study w...
An intervention framework for design and development of interactive video lectures based on video viewing behaviors: A learning analytics approach
Yürüm, Ozan Raşit; Yıldırım, İbrahim Soner; Taşkaya Temizel, Tuğba; Department of Information Systems (2021-9-7)
Video-based learning has become very popular together with the increase in the number of massive open online courses (MOOCs). Learners interacting with video naturally exhibit viewing behaviors based on clickstream interactions such as pause, forward, and backward. These are important inputs to predict learning variables and to develop an intervention framework. However, there is no guideline or method on how to use these behavioral patterns in favor of learners. The purpose of this study is to investigate ...
Development of a multi-dimensional model to evaluate higher education instructors’ adoption towards learning management system
Fındık, Duygu; Özkan Yıldırım, Sevgi; Department of Information Systems (2010)
Through the rapid expansion of information technologies, Learning Management Systems have become one of the most important innovations for delivery of education. Successful implementation and management of these systems are primarily based on the instructors' adoption. However, too few researches have been conducted to evaluate instructors’ adoption towards e-learning system as taking higher education as base. This study aims to understand behavioral intentions of higher education instructors towards Learni...
