Çalışma ekonomisi literatüründe asgari ücretin istihdam üzerindeki etkileri son dönemlerde sık tartışılan konulardan biri haline gelmiştir. Standart rekabetçi işgücü piyasası modellerinde asgari ücret uygulamasının istihdam düzeyini negatif etkileyeceği ileri sürülürken, monopsoncu işgücü piyasası modellerinde asgari ücretin istihdam üzerinde anlamsız ya da pozitif etkisinin olacağı ileri sürülmektedir. Teorik anlamdaki bu farklılık uygulamalı çalışmaların önemini de arttırmaktadır. Çalışmamızın amacı, asgari ücret ile istihdam arasındaki söz konusu ilişkileri, Türk imalat sanayi örneği ile 1969-2008 dönemi için Pesaran eşbütünleşme yöntemi, Toda-Yamamato nedensellik analizi ve etki-tepki fonksiyonları kullanarak incelemektir. Çalışmadan elde edilen sonuçlara göre; i) istihdam ile asgari ücret arasında bir eş-bütünleşme ilişkisi yoktur, ii) Türkiye’deki asgari ücret uygulamaları istihdamdaki değiğimin nedeni değildir, iii) asgari ücretteki değişmelere istihdam istatistiksel olarak anlamlı tepkiler vermemektedir.
