The proposed project comprises of four parts:1. Monitoring of the environmental performance of selected buildings.2. Testing of alternative building materials in hybrid constructions.3. Design and simulations of experimental greenhouses to evaluate their energy efficiency.4. Design and simulation to select best rehabilitation option for the disused Şahmuratlı school.Details of these components is given in the Project Proposal uploaded to section 5 "Ekler"

Agri-tourism : as a new element of rural development
Topcu Demirbaş, Elif; Pınarcıoğlu, Mehmet Melih; Urban Design in City and Regional Planning Department (2007)
This thesis study is developed under the lights of new developments related to rural tourism sector in the world. With the effects of emerging term ‘sustainability’ in 1980s, sustainable tourism concept has found new implementation areas. The increasing demand on the tourism activities taking place in rural areas has lead the governments to find ways of benefiting from this tendency in a sustainable way. Since the early 1990s, a new type of rural tourism called as agri-tourism has been developed as a concep...
Thermal Performance of Buildings with Passive Solar Gains, Insulation and Energy Efficient Heating Systems
Çakmaklı, Ayşem Berrin; Elias Özkan, Soofia Tahira; Pedergnana, Matthieu; Farzin Moghaddam, Maryam; Deljavan, Nastaran; Aslan, Ece(2014-12-31)
This project proposal builds on previous research by the project team to demonstrate how energy efficiency in buildings can be significantly increased all year round by combining passive solar heating, appropriate building materials, and adequate insulation with efficient heating techniques such as the rocket stove. Design and production of solar units and energy efficient rocket stoves will be followed by monitoring of the thermal performance and energy consumption of selected spaces. Results will indicat...
Structural analysis, evaluation and recommendations for conservation of the lahore museum /
Shuja, Shajeea; Akyüz, Uğurhan; Şahin Güçhan, Neriman; Conservation of Cultural Heritage in Department of Architecture (2018)
This thesis aims to structurally analyze and evaluate Lahore Museum, Lahore, Pakistan to propose a structural conservation process and formulate recommendations for its conservation. The building completed in 1893 was designed by John Lockwood Kipling and Bhai Ram Singh while Sir Ganga Ram was the engineer incharge. The building besides brick and timber uses metal for the construction of its structural members. The predominant structural system in the building is brick masonry load bearing system while a fe...
Energy Harvesting Through Lumped Elements Located on Metamaterial Absorber Particles
Gunduz, Ozan T.; Sabah, Cumali (2015-09-09)
We propose and examine an enhanced version of a multi-band metamaterial absorber for an energy harvesting application. The numerical results of the multi-band absorption characteristics of no-load conditions are presented and compared with the loading conditions. At most % 50 of the incoming wave energy whose correspondence is 0.25 Watt is converted to real power at the resistive loads at 5.88 GHz by the usage of 2000 ohms loads. In order to evaluate the harvesting efficiency, three different types of effic...
Needs Assessment Project for Setting up an "Heritage in Conflict Zones Network"
Boukaze-khan, Didier; Erciyas, Deniz Burcu; Şahin Güçhan, Neriman; Atıcı, Nadire(2018-12-31)
Following the ambitious objectives of the international conference, entitled Archaeological Heritage in Conflict Zones, to be held on METU Campus at the Congress & Convention Centre on 02 & 03 February 2017, we would like to conduct a ‘NEEDS ASSESSMENT’ PROJECT (through a BAP application) to set up a Research Network focusing on HERITAGE IN CONFLICT ZONES
