1. Treatment of gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) with benzene 0.6 ml/kg/day, s.c., for four consecutive days resulted in a marked 78% and 73% decrease in total cytochrome P450 content and 7-ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase activity of liver microsomes, respectively.

IN-VIVO EFFECTS OF THE ANESTHETIC, BENZOCAINE, ON LIVER MICROSOMAL CYTOCHROME-P450 AND MIXED-FUNCTION OXIDASE ACTIVITIES OF GILTHEAD SEABREAM (SPARUS-AURATA)
ARINC, E; SEN, A (Elsevier BV, 1994-03-01)
Gilthead seabreams were exposed to benzocaine, 4-aminobenzoic acid ethyl ester, 57 mg/l in sea water for 3 min, daily, for 2 or 3 consecutive days. The fish were killed 20 hr after the last treatment. Benzocaine treatment for 2 or 3 days resulted in 57% and 67% inhibition of liver microsomal aniline 4-hydroxylase and ethylmorphine N-demethylase activities, respectively. The total cytochrome P450 content of fish liver microsomes was unaltered following the 2-day benzocaine treatment. However, additional 3 mi...
COMPARATIVE-STUDIES OF SHEEP LUNG AND LIVER NITROFURANTOIN REDUCTASE
İşcan, Mesude (Elsevier BV, 1993-10-01)
1. Nitrofurantoin reductase which catalyzes the bioactivation of nitrofurantoin was purified to electrophoretic homogenity from sheep liver and lung microsomes, with a yield of 15% and 35%, respectively. The specific activity of both reductases was found to be similar (140 nmol/min/mg protein). 2. The effects of nitrofurantoin and NADPH concentrations, pH, ionic strength, amount of enzyme and reaction period, on the enzyme activity were studied and the optimum conditions for maximum activity of purified fi...
Effects of 2-arylbenzimidazoles on rat hepatic microsomal monooxygenase system
İşcan, Mesude Y.; Büyükbingöl, Erdem; İşcan, Mümtaz; Şahin, Fethi; Şafak, Cihat (Elsevier BV, 1989-1)
1. The effects of eight newly synthesized 2-aryl substituted benzimidazole derivatives on control and phenobarbital (PB) treated rat liver microsomal aniline 4-hydroxylase and ethylmorphine N-demethylase activities, and their binding to control and PB-treated rat liver microsomal oxidized cytochrome P-450 are presented. 2. All compounds inhibited ethylmorphine N-demethylase activity with I50 values ranging from 8.50 × 10−4 M to 27.83 × 10−4 M in control and ranging from 2.80 × 10−4 M to 15.79 × 10−4 M in P...
Effect of suppressive DNA on CpG-induced immune activation.
Yamada, H; Gursel, I; Takeshita, F; Conover, J; Ishii, KJ; Gürsel, Mayda; Takeshita, S; Klinman, DM (The American Association of Immunologists, 2002-11-15)
Bacterial DNA and synthetic oligodeoxynucleotides (ODN) containing unmethylated CpG motifs stimulate a strong innate immune response. This stimulation can be abrogated by either removing the CpG DNA or adding inhibitory/suppressive motifs. Suppression is dominant over stimulation and is specific for CpG-induced immune responses (having no effect on LPS- or Con A-induced activation). Individual cells noncompetitively internalize both stimulatory and suppressive ODN. Studies using ODN composed of both stimula...
Effect of salt stress on antioxidant defense systems of sensitive and resistance cultivars of lentil(Lens culinaris M.)
Cicerali, Işın Nur; Yücel, Ayşe Meral; Department of Biotechnology (2004)
In this study, two lentil cultivars (Lens culinaris, Medik.) (ILL5582-salt tolerant and ILL590) were characterized and compared due to their NaCl susceptibility and antioxidant mechanism was examined under laboratory conditions. Physiological parameters such as wet-dry weight, root-shoot lengths, cell membrane stability, lipid peroxidation in terms of malondialdehyde (MDA), H2O2, proline contents were determined. The activities of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD: EC 1.15.1.1), catalase...
