Spatiotemporal patterns in a dc semiconductor-gas-discharge system: Stability analysis and full numerical solutions
Rafatov, İsmail; EBERT, Ute (American Physical Society (APS), 2007-09-01)
A system very similar to a dielectric barrier discharge, but with a simple stationary dc voltage, can be realized by sandwiching a gas discharge and a high-ohmic semiconductor layer between two planar electrodes. In experiments this system forms spatiotemporal and temporal patterns spontaneously, quite similarly to, e.g., Rayleigh-Benard convection. Here it is modeled with a simple discharge model with space charge effects, and the semiconductor is approximated as a linear conductor. In previous work, this ...

Linearization-based attitude error regulation: multiplicative error case
Doruk, R. Ozgur (2009-01-01)
Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to design and simulate a linearized attitude stabilizer based on linear quadratic regulator theory (LQR) using the multiplicative definition of the attitude.
Nonlinearity of the residual shear strength envelope in stiff clays
Maghsoudloo, Arash; Huvaj Sarıhan, Nejan; Department of Civil Engineering (2013)
During shearing of stiff clays, plate-shaped clay particles are parallel-oriented in the direction of shear reaching the minimum resistance of “residual shear strength”. The residual shear strength envelopes of stiff clays are curved, but for practical purposes represented by linear envelopes. This study investigates the nonlinearity of the residual shear strength envelope using experimental evidence (i) from laboratory reversal direct shear tests on two stiff clays (Ankara clay and kaolinite) at 25 to 900 ...
Nonlinearity and Smooth Breaks in Unit Root Testing
Omay, Tolga; Yıldırım Kasap, Dilem (2014-06-01)
We develop unit root tests that allow under the alternative hypothesis for a smooth transition between deterministic linear trends, around which stationary asymmetric adjustment may occur by employing exponential smooth transition auto-regressive (ESTAR) models The small sample properties of the newly developed test are briefly investigated and an application for investigating the PPP hypothesis for Argentina is provided.
