SODIUM, RUBIDIUM AND CESIUM UPTAKE ON LOS-TRANCOS CLAY

1994-10-03

DYER, A
The uptake of sodium, caesium and rubidium onto Los Trances clay was studied using the batch method. Sodium-22, rubidium-86 and caesium-137 were used as tracers. In most of the experiments cation concentrations used were 0.01 N. Triple distilled and deionized water ware used and the grain size of all solid particles was less than or equal to 53 mu m. In all cases a few hours of shaking was enough to reach the equilibrium. The ion exchange isotherm experiments were performed by using ammonium forms of the clays. Results showed that the ammonium form of Los Trancos clay was selective for Cs and Rb uptake but Na was not prefered. Cation uptake kinetics were complete in 1 h.

Trace level determination of beryllium in natural and flavored mineral waters after pre-concentration using activated carbon
KILINÇ, ERSİN; Bakirdere, Sezgin; YAMAN, MEHMET (Informa UK Limited, 2011-01-01)
The concentrations of beryllium (Be) in natural and flavored mineral water samples were determined by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer (FAAS) after pre-concentration based on the complexation of Be(+2) with a mixture of acetylacetone (pentane-2,4-dione) plus morin (3,5,7,2',4'-pentaoxyflavone) and adsorption on activated carbon. The adsorbed complex was eluted with 1.5 ml of 2.0 M HNO(3) and evaporated to dryness. After adding 1.5 ml of 2 M HNO(3) and centrifuging, Be in acid solution was determine...
Radiation induced chain addition of allylbenzene to 1,4-dioxane
Nesterov, SV; Kucukyavuz, S; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1999-06-01)
Radiation induced chain addition of allylbenzene to 1,4-dioxane has been studied by IR-, UV-, mass-, NMR- and ESR-spectrometry. Efficiency of the addition depends on the concentration of monomer and it has an optimum at C-monom<0.125M. Apparently, upper concentration limit of the reaction is caused by absorbed energy transfer on the molecule of monomer followed by energy deactivation. Radiation-chemical yields of the product are 12 and 31 molec./100 eV for 0.125M and 0.07M solution, respectively. The value ...
FINE-STRUCTURE OF MASS AND CHARGE-DISTRIBUTION IN LOW-ENERGY FISSION
ERTEN, HN; ARAS, NK (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1992-04-01)
Studies of finer details in mass and charge distribution in fission leads to a better understanding of the fission process. Experimental determination of independent and cumulative yields using radiochemical techniques as well as mass spectrometers and fission product recoil separators form the basis of such studies. It has been established that closed shells as well as an even number of nucleons influence both mass and charge distributions. The magnitudes of these effects may be estimated from existing exp...
Gamma-radiation initiated addition of allylbenzene to the morpholine
Nesterov, SV; Kucukyavuz, S; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1999-10-01)
Radiation induced addition of allylbenzene to morpholine in liquid state was investigated by UV-, IR-spectroscopy and GS/mass spectrometry. Conversion of monomer depends on its initial concentration in the solution and this value is maximum for 0.05M solution. Radiation chemical yield of the product, G(prod), increases with concentration of allylbenzene and for 0.15M solution it is equal approximately 9.7 molec/100 eV. This value points on chain character of the process. Final product was identified by elec...
Fatty acid methyl ester analysis of bacterşal isolates from salt lake, Turkey and characterization of their extracellular enzymes
Bahçeci, Hümeyra; Gültekin, Güzin Candan; Department of Biotechnology (2004)
In this study, 11 bacterial isolates from Salt Lake,Turkey were identified by using fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) analysis. They were screened for production of industrially important enzymes xylanase, cellulase, a-amylase and protease. These enzymes were characterized in terms of enzyme activity, stability, optimum temperature and optimum pH. One of the isolates was identified as Bacillus pumilus, and two of them were identified as Bacillus subtilis. Other isolates were determined to be Bacillus lichenifo...
