Titanium diboride (TiB2) particulate reinforced Fe-based alloy composite coating was produced with ferrotitaniurn (FeTi), ferroboron (FeB), ferrotungsten (FeW), ferrochromium (FeCr), ferrovanadium (FeV) and ferromolybdenum (FeMo) powders by using gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) process. The effects of GTAW processing on the microstructure of AISI-4340 alloy coating with ferro-alloy powders were investigated experimentally. Abrasive wear tests were performed on the coated surface of samples to examine the influence of vol% and the size of boride on wear rates. Depending on the results, it was seen that the samples coated by FeTi-FeW-FeB ferro-alloy powders mixture have the highest wear resistance. Crown Copyright (C) 2009 Published by Elsevier Ltd. Combined effects of ALS and SLS on Al2O3 reinforced composite nickel coatings
Yılmaz, Olgun; Karakaya, I. (Informa UK Limited, 2020-05-03)
The mechanical and tribological properties of electrochemical coatings can be enhanced by the embedded second phase particles to nickel matrix. Two different anionic surfactants sodium dodecyl sulfate and ammonium lignosulfonate were used together to adjust the wetting conditions and provide the suspension of Al2O3 particles in a nickel sulfamate electrolyte in this study. The effects of current density and amounts of the two surfactants on wear rate, coefficient of friction, and hardness were studied. It w...
Production of in situ aluminum-titanium diboride master alloy formed by slag-metal reaction
CHANGIZI, Ahmad; Kalkanlı, Ali; SEVINC, NACİ (Elsevier BV, 2011-01-12)
Al-TiB(2) master alloys have received much attention in recent years owing to their potential as efficient grain refiners for aluminum foundry alloys. In this study, the process of production of master alloys was investigated to develop a low cost method, namely, slag-metal reaction. This method can be used to fabricate Al-TiB2 master alloy in situ from the TiO(2)-H(3)BO(3)-Na(3)AlF(6) and Al system. Since the price of the raw materials is low and the technology is simple, the processing technique appears t...
Synthesis and Characterization of Surface Sulfonated Polypropylene Films
Ecevit, Safiye Tuba; Aras, Leyla; Tincer, Teoman (Informa UK Limited, 2008-01-01)
The basic reseach on the surface sulfonation of polypropylene (PP) is very important for design of surfaces for higher functionalization. For this purpose, liquid-phase sulfonation of polypropylene surfaces at various temperatures and different time periods was performed using concentrated sulphuric acid. The physical and chemical changes produced by the sulfonation on the polypropylene surfaces were determined by contact angle measurements, mechanical analysis, UV-Vis spectroscopy, differential scanning ca...
Study of high radio frequency plasma discharge effects on carbon fiber using Raman spectroscopy
Akbar, D.; Erözbek Güngör, Ümmügül (Elsevier BV, 2014-02-15)
The goal of this research is to evaluate the potential of single and dual high RF reactors for the treatment of carbon fiber by Raman and FT-IR spectroscopies. Unsized poly-acrylonitrile (PAN) carbon fiber was treated with single high frequency (40.68 MHz) and double radio frequency capacitively coupled plasma (RF-CCP) discharge reactor (40.68/2.1 MHz) using pure nitrogen gas. The changes in the structure of the carbon fiber surfaces due to the variations of the D and G band intensity ratio (I-D/I-G), cryst...
Characterization and Electrical Conductivity of Poly(ethylene glycol)/Polyacrylonitrile/Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube Composites
Aqeel, Salem M.; Kucukyavuz, Zuhal (Wiley, 2011-01-05)
Polymer blends based on poly(ethylene glycol), polyacrylonitrile, and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were prepared by the solvent cast technique from the dispersion of the MWNTs in the concentration range 0-3.45 wt %. The interaction of the MWNTs with the polymer blend was confirmed by a Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy study. The thermal properties of the polymer blend with the MWNTs were carried out by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). It was evident from DSC that the p...
