Effect of Dry Process Crumb Rubber Modification on the Compactibility of Warm and Hot Mix Asphalt

2018-09-28
This study focused on the association of the dry process crumb rubber (CR) modification and Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA) methods. The effects of conditioning time, mixing and compaction temperatures were analyzed to overcome the binder-CR interaction problems at lower temperatures. Three different asphalt mixes were prepared: Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), Dry process CR modified HMA (Dry HMA) and Dry Process CR modified WMA (Dry WMA). Since the conditioning time was significant to facilitate the bond between the CR particles and binder, CR modified mixes were conditioned for four different periods, (0, 45, 90 and 120 min.) to analyze the effects on the mixture properties and to come up with the optimum duration. In addition, to investigate the effect of mixing and compaction temperatures on the compactability and stability, Dry WMA mixes were prepared at three different temperature configurations.

Effects of liquid rubber modification on the behaviour of epoxy resin
Öztürk, Abdullah; Kaynak, Cevdet (2001-12-01)
The aim of this study was to investigate the behaviour of brittle epoxy resin when modified by liquid rubber for toughening purposes. The changes in mechanical and thermal properties of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A based epoxy resin with hydroxyl terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) (1% and 1.5%) have been studied. A silane coupling agent (SCA) was also utilized to improve the compatibility of HTPB and epoxy matrix. Four groups of specimens were prepared by using different orders of mixing of HTPB with SCA an...
Effect of fiber and resin types on mechanical properties of fiber-reinforced composite pipe
Gokce, Neslihan; Yılmazer, Ülkü; SUBAŞI, SERKAN (Thomas Telford Ltd., 2019-09-01)
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the types of fiber and resin on the mechanical properties of polyester composite pipes. Orthophthalic, isophthalic and vinyl ester resins were used as the matrix; E-glass, electrical/chemical resistance (ECR)-glass and basalt fibers were used as reinforcement; and 98% silica (SiO2) sand was used as filler in mixtures. Samples were produced by the centrifugal casting method. Samples cut from the produced pipes were tested to determine stiffness and longitu...
Effects of chain extension and branching on the properties of recycled poly(ethylene terephtkalate)-organoclay nanocomposites
Keyfoğlu, Ali Emrah; Yılmazer, Ülkü; Department of Chemical Engineering (2004)
In this study, the effects of chain extension and branching on the properties of nanocomposites produced from recycled poly(ethylene terephthalate) and organically modified clay were investigated. As the chain extension/branching agent, maleic anhydride (MA) and pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA) were used. The nanocomposites were prepared by twin-screw extrusion, followed by injection molding. Recycled poly(ethylene terephthalate), was mixed with 2, 3 and 4 weight % of organically modified montmorillonite. Du...
Effect of resin and fiber on the abrasion, impact and pressure resistance of cylindrical composite structures
Kaya, Derya; Yılmazer, Ülkü; Department of Chemical Engineering (2011)
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of resin and fiber on the abrasion, impact and internal pressure resistances of fiber reinforced plastic composite pipes produced by continuous filament winding method. For this study, pipe samples were produced with different combinations of resin type, fiber type, fiber amount and fiber length. All the samples were tested in accordance with the related ISO (International Organization for Standardization), DIN (German Standardization Institution) and BSI...
Effect of compatibilizers on the gas separation performance of polycarbonate membranes
Şen, Değer; Yılmaz, Levent; Kalıpçılar, Halil; Department of Chemical Engineering (2003)
In this study, the effect of compatibilizers on the gas separation performance of polycarbonate (PC) membranes was investigated. Membranes were prepared by solvent evaporation method. They were characterized by single gas permeability measurements of O2, N2, H2 and CO2 as well as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR). Membranes containing 0.5 to 10 w% p-nitroaniline (pNA) were prepared to study the effect of compatibili...
