Using functional diversity components to describe phytoplankton community assembly processes in Turkish shallow lakes
Acar, Vildan; Beklioğlu, Meryem; Department of Biology (2022-4-22)
The recent increase in biodiversity loss due to various anthropogenic effects makes it crucial to understand the relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning for the conservation and preservation of ecosystems. Clasically, biodiversity and ecosystem functioning studies use species diversity as a measure of biodiversity, but functional diversity has been shown in some cases to better explain and predict ecosystem-level processes. In this study, we investigated the role of dispersal, environmen...
Assessment of Environmental Flows under Human Intervention and Climate Change Conditions in a Mediterranean Watershed
Yılmaz, Mustafa Tuğrul; Alp, Emre; Sarıcan, Yeliz; Afsar, Mehdi; Bulut, Burak; Ersoy, Erhan Nuri; Karasu, İpek Gül; Önen, Alper (null; 2017-12-15)
Allocation of the river flow for ecosystems is very critical for sustainable management of ecosystems containing aquatic habitats in need of more water than other environments. Availability and allocation of water over such locations becomes more stressed as a result of the influence of human interventions (e.g., increased water use for irrigation) and the expected change in climate. This study investigates the current and future (until 2100) low-flow requirements over 10 subcatchments in a Mediterranean Wa...
Detection and identification of greenhouse gases using infrared hyperspectral imagery
Gür, Yusuf; Çetin, Yasemin; Department of Information Systems (2017)
Recently, one of the most critical global environment problems is human and ecological exposure to hazardous wastes from urban, agricultural, industrial and military activities. These wastes often include greenhouse gases like water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, ozone and other organic chemicals. To protect the environment from those gases, hyperspectral imaging can be applied due to its ability to extract large amount of spatial and spectral information. Detection of gases emitted into the...
Modeling of mogan and eymir lakes aquifer system
Yağbasan, Özlem; Yazıcıgil, Hasan; Department of Geological Engineering (2007)
Mogan and Eymir Lakes, located 20 km south of Ankara, are important aesthetic, recreational, and ecological resources. Dikilitaş and İkizce reservoirs, constructed on upstream surface waters, are two man-made structures in the basin encompassing an area of 985 km2. The purpose of this study is (1) to quantify groundwater components in lakes’ budgets, (2) to assess the potential impacts of upstream reservoirs on lake levels, and (3) to determine effects of potential climatic change on lakes and groundwater l...
ANALYZING THE COMBINED IMPACT OF CLIMATE AND LAND USE LAND COVER CHANGE ON THE HYDROLOGICAL RESPONSE OF JHELUM RIVER BASIN IN KASHMIR
Hamid, Injila; Akıntuğ, Bertuğ; Sustainable Environment and Energy Systems (2022-7)
In terms of efficient and sustainable management of water resources of a basin, land use land cover (LULC) and climate change impact studies hold utmost importance. Land use change dynamics along with the climate change owing to greenhouse gas emissions are altering the hydrological response of river basins. This study therefore focuses on quantifying the combined impact of LULC and climate change on the water balance components of the Jhelum river basin using Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) hydrologi...
