Observation of Transparency of Erbium-doped Silicon nitride in photonic crystal nanobeam cavities

One dimensional nanobeam photonic crystal cavities are fabricated in an Er-doped amorphous silicon nitride layer. Photoluminescence from the cavities around 1.54 mu m is studied at cryogenic and room temperatures at different optical pump powers. The resonators demonstrate Purcell enhanced absorption and emission rates, also confirmed by time resolved measurements. Resonances exhibit linewidth narrowing with pump power, signifying absorption bleaching and the onset of stimulated emission in the material at ...
Investigation of silver-induced crystallization of germanium thin films fabricated on different substrates
Kabacelik, Ismail; KULAKCI, MUSTAFA; Turan, Raşit (2015-06-01)
Silver-induced crystallizations of amorphous germanium (alpha-Ge) thin films were fabricated through electron beam evaporation on crystalline silicon (c-Si) (100), aluminum-doped zinc oxide (AZO), and glass substrates at room temperature. The solid-phase crystallization (SPC) of alpha-Ge films was investigated for various post-annealing temperatures between 300 and 500 degrees C for 60 min. Two crystallization approaches were compared: SPC and metal-induced crystallization (MIC). The structural properties o...
Modeling of spherulite microstructures in semicrystalline polymers
Oktay, H. Emre; Gürses, Ercan (2015-11-01)
Semicrystalline polymers are composed of crystalline structures together with amorphous polymer chain networks and therefore they exhibit deformation mechanisms of both crystalline materials and amorphous polymers. One of the most common microstructures observed in semicrystalline polymers is the spherulite microstructure in which crystalline lamellae are embedded in a matrix of amorphous material and grow out from a common central nucleus in radial directions. The mechanical behavior of semicrystalline pol...
Investigation of Defects in CZT Single Crystals
Yaşar, Bengisu; Kabukçuoğlu, Merve; Ergunt, Yasin; Parlak, Mehmet; Turan, Raşit; Kalay, Yunus Eren (2017-03-02)
The II-IV compound semiconductor CZT single crystal is a highly prominent material for the fabrication of various industrial applications such as gamma ray/X-ray detectors, electro-optic modulators and solar cells. Often, CZT single crystals suffer from various crystallographic defects emerged during crystal growth and post-growth cooling processes. In the scope of this research, the nano scale defects were investigated by using HRTEM. Single crystalline CZT crystals were grown using a three-zone vertical B...
Investigation of plasma deposited hexagonal boron nitride thin films
Anutgan, Mustafa; Katırcıoğlu, Bayram; Department of Physics (2007)
Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) thin films are deposited by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD). Effects of heat treatment and source gases on the structure and physical properties are investigated. Chemical bonding is analyzed in comparison with the better understood isoelectronic carbon compound, graphite. It seems that the basic difference between h-BN and graphite arises from the different electronegativities of boron and nitrogen atoms. Optical absorptions in UV-visible range for crystalli...
