Thermoreversible gelation behaviour of PTMC-PEG-PTMC triblock copolymers
Bat, Erhan; Feijen, J. (2008-12-18)
Triblock copolymers of trimethylene carbonate (TMC) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) were synthesized. Their gelation behaviour in water and the properties of the gels were investigated by particle size measurements, the vial tilting method, and dynamic rheology. As the temperature was decreased, the average particle size increased and sol-to-gel transition was observed. The storage modulus of these thermoreversible gels ranged from 220 Pa to 4700 Pa depending on the composition and concentration of the copoly...
Thermoresponsive smart polymeric cell carriers of pnipan and elp for bone tissue engineering
Öztürk, Nihan; Hasırcı, Vasıf Nejat; Department of Biotechnology (2008)
This study was aimed at designing a cell carrier from an intelligent polymer to achieve loading of mechanical stress for the purpose of improving the tissue engineering capability in vitro. Ethyleneglycoldimethacrylate (EGDMA) crosslinked poly(Nisopropylacrylamide) (pNIPAM) films were prepared by radical polymerization with ultraviolet light (UV) in the presence of photoinitiator 2,2'-azoisobutyronitrile (AIBN) in isopropanol/water (1:1). Patterns were formed on the surface of the polymers by using silicon ...
THERMOPHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF TWO-PHASE REFRIGERANT BASED NANOFLUIDS IN A REFRIGERATION CYCLE
Tekin, Bilgehan; Yazicioglu, Almila G. (2016-07-14)
Nanofluids are a class of fluids with nanoparticles suspended in a base fluid. The aim for using nanofluids is often to improve the thermophysical properties of the base fluid so as to enhance the energy transfer efficiency. As the technology develops; the size of devices and systems needs to get smaller to fulfill the engineering requirements and/or to be leading among competitors. The use of nanofluids in heat transfer applications seems to be a viable solution to current heat transfer problems, albeit wi...

Thermo-optic tuning of erbium-doped amorphous silicon nitride microdisk resonators
Hryciw, Aaron C.; Kekatpure, Rohan D.; Yerci, Selçuk; Dal Negro, Luca; Brongersma, Mark L. (2011-01-24)
We demonstrate a technique to yield a direct and sensitive measurement of the thermo-optic coefficient (TOC) for light-emitting materials in optical microdisk resonators. Using photoluminescence from erbium-doped amorphous silicon nitride (a-SiN(x):Er) as an example, we show how the TOC can be extracted from thermally induced shifts in the resonant microdisk modes. For the highest-performance a-SiN(x):Er material composition, we find a TOC at 1.54 mu m of similar to 3 X 10(-5) K(-1) in the 300-500 K range. ...
