This study was carried out to determine the toxic effects of the concentrations of 16 PAH compounds identified as the of priority pollutant in the river and sea sediments of the Samsun Province coastline. As a result of analysis of the sediment samples taken from 14 stations by gas chromatography mass-mass spectrophotometry, total PAH concentration was determined to be in the range of 53,33 –1099,56 μg kg-1. It was observed that the individual PAH concentrations were lower than their effects range low (ERL

Su kolonunun oksijenli-oksijensiz arayüzey tabakasındaki fosfat ve nitrat döngülerinin modellemesi
Oğuz, Temel; Fach Salihoğlu, Bettina Andrea(2012)
Data collected extensively in the water of the central Baltic Sea show the development of nitrate deficits, likely caused by denitrification and anammox. Observations of temperature and salinity, oxygen, hydrogen sulfide and nutrient concentrations in the central Gotland Sea reveal the rate of formation of nitrate deficits to be largest in the oxic waters above and in the halocline. The reason that large accumulated deficits are observed in stagnant deeper waters is simply that there they can build up over ...
Interactions of water and sediment phosphorus in Lake Eymir
Plevneli, Tolga; Aksoy, Ayşegül; Sanin, Selim L.; Department of Environmental Engineering (2013)
A detailed study is held in Lake Eymir, a shallow eutrophic lake, investigating the phosphorus concentrations in water and the bottom sediment. Water depth, secchi depth, TSS, sediment soluble total phosphorus, sediment soluble PO4-P, Chl-a , TKN, NH4-N, NO2-N, NO3-N, alkalinity, temperature, pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, turbidity and PAR parameters are monitored for 21 months and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is applied to identify trend of phosphorus concentration in water column. Results indi...
Wind-induced circulation and sediment transport in semi-enclosed basins: case study for Fethiye bay
Akbaşoğlu, Sinan; Yalçıner, Ahmet Cevdet; Department of Civil Engineering (2011)
In this thesis study wind-induced circulation and sediment transport in semi-enclosed basins are carried out for Fethiye Bay. Hydrodynamics of bays are very complex, mainly affected by wind and wave climate, sea bed slope and sediment characteristics. The sea bed profile at the bay changes under winter and summer storms of different speeds and directions. A case study is carried out with the developed methodology. For this reason, Fethiye Bay is selected for the study area. Present structure of Fethiye Bay ...
Spatial and temporal distribution of inorganic and organic pollutant concentrations at Northwestern Anatolia
Sarısaltık, Ufuk; Tuncel, Süleyman Gürdal; Department of Environmental Engineering (2019)
Concentrations of inorganic pollutants including NO2, SO2, O3 and organic pollutants including benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, o-xylene and m&p-xylene, which are known as BTEX compounds were measured on a seasonal basis in 13 cities located in the Central and Northern parts of Anatolian Plateau. Cities included in measurements were Ankara, Bartın, Bolu, Çankırı, Düzce, Eskişehir, Karabük, Kastamonu, Kırıkkale, Kırşehir, Kütahya, Yozgat, and Zonguldak. Sampling was performed in four seasonal campaigns in eac...
