Explicit apologies in L2 Turkish

This study provides quantitative and qualitative analyses of explicit expressions of apology in second language (L2) Turkish. L2 data from native Arabic and Russian speakers are compared with remedial acts used by native Turkish speakers in the same situations. Findings reveal that even after spending a considerable amount of time in the target language community, L2 learners still deviate significantly from native speaker norms and face the risk of encountering communication breakdowns.
